I like how they talk about Rain-X like it is comparable to any of the high performance automotive coatings.
So basically they are gonna offer a coating at stealership prices with swirls free of charge.
If you are wondering what product it is that Nissan is applying to the vehicle hear is a link to the product - it is called Ultra Ever Dry and it is made by Ultratech International
Ever Dry | UltraTech International Inc.
Website says it will last approximately 1 year before needing to be reapplied.
13 microns thick
Just think how much detailers are going to love removing this product to remove swirls installed by the dealership....
The product is sprayed on, not applied by machine.
But I imagine it would be similar to correcting an opti-coated car.
Even better, the website says not to use alcohol or solvent based products as they will remove the coating so just pull out your IPA and spray away to remove it!
We will see if those goes further than the self-healing paint that didn`t catch on. Interesting none the less.
If you notice the paint on the car is a "matte" white color. That is because as far I have found in my research the Ultra Ever Dry is not clear/transparent; it leaves a white hazy finish. So using and showing it on white is the best/only option at the moment.
Looks cool, but coatings that hydrophobic are generally very weak, much like a lotus flower. The structure is very hydrophobic but can easily be altered by even a simple wash. Also a super-hydrophobic spray on coating like this will more than likely discolor the paint, which is more than likely why they used a white car (not just to show dirt).
You just gotta love the deceit Nissan has to go to in order to gain publicity.
