Somebody help me: The GarrY Dean Wash Method

I recieved an email asking me about the Garry Dean Wash Method. I have heard of this method and I know and like Garry, but I had never watched his video. After washing it the first time, I noticed that he recommends

    -Presoaking
    -Wiping with solution
    -Wiping with a damp cloth
    -Buffing dry

The presoaking was around for years, and the wiping with a damp cloth, prior to wiping dry is something I put in this thread (which debuted a year prior to the Garry Dean Wash Method) and something I have suggested for years.

I am trying to grasp exactly what is the Garry Dean Wash Method (the only difference I can kinda see is the specific towel folding). I know that several members on Autopia have expressed they use this "method" to wash their cars. Perhaps you guys could help me understand?

Using multiple towels that never go back into a rinse or wash bucket.

The idea is not introducing a dirty towel in the wash solution. I think that using a roll method is just as effective and you won`t use 20 towels to wash your car.

Saves time by not rinsing your wash media, plus only one bucket. Can hold 50+ towels in a bucket with solution, cap it with a sealing lid, and you can be mobile and ready to wash without need for water access.

I wouldn`t call it revolutionary, but the efficiency is outstanding. When I first saw it I had a "duh" moment, as I`m sure many did.

    These guys have it.

I have tried this and it works well but I then have more towels to wash more frequently. The one thing I did notice though is that by doing it this way I can EASILY wash my car with only 1 Gallon or rinseless solution. When I do standard rinseless I find myself using at least 2-3 gallons consistently.

It seems the only thing added to what you already posted last year is the use of a lot of towels.

Re: Somebody help me: The GarrY Dean Wash Method

I have done the rinseless method twice now and still not sure if I am doing it properly. First time I used DPRWNG and I seemed to have a film left on the car, I used 2BM, pre-soaked panels, and washed and then put the towel in the rinse bucket, agitated, ringed out and back to the solution, washing and drying a panel at a time. Second time I decided car was too dirty and did a quick wash at the car wash to rinse dirt and the heavy road grime off. I decided to switch and use BFRW, 2BM and pre-soak again, multiple towels again but this time I used the first towel for the first pass threw it in the rinse bucket and then grabbed the 2nd towel from the solution and made another pass. Even though I rinsed car at the car wash I had a big improvement but I am still ending up with streaks on the car. Even though I pre-soaked and my MF towels are wet I am not letting the solution run off the panels which means I am probably not using enough. I really can`t use too much to the point I have too much running off the bodywork because it will freeze to the floor (I heat my garage only when I am working in it and usually temp is about 20F). I may have to try using more MF towels but don`t see how that will help when solution looks clean. I just wish I was able to hose it off but that is just not an option. How does the saying go "third time is a charm".

Re: Somebody help me: The GarrY Dean Wash Method

I have been using this with rinseless for about 2 weeks (3 washes) and since my car never gets more than a rain wash or water spots , I find 5 blue MF`s do the car fine. I just retire them to a plastic tray and they get washed after.

After the above and before drying, I get unbelievable gloss by using a garden sprayer w/ waterless mix. I spray the whole car and dry with waffles...outstanding results:

I have been using the method of multiple towels for quite some time, didn`t think it had a specific name.

Roshan - Nice video, thanks for sharing.

** Tip ** To help mix the rinseless product, pour the rinseless solution in first. Rinseless products do not tend to foam like a traditional soap.
