I don`t know how good it is for drying, but I guarantee our dogs would like it.

I just replaced my waffle weave drying towels with the Mammoth. It is very thick and fluffy soft. I switched to this towel as I wanted to pat down my 911 vs. running the waffle weave across the car. Seems to work well for my stated purpose.

I like it so much I bought 3 more. And yes, dogs and cats will love it.

I find that towels that are very very thick have a hard time drying a surface. I been using my Big Blue III Towels and also the Cobra Guzzler HD Waffle Weave Towels.
