    Re: Nanoskin Autoscrub Pad

    Pretty cool!

    Until

I guess I`m skeptical until I try it. I don`t think this can get into the contaminants as well as Iron X can and don`t think it can get the paint as smooth as IronX + clay can.

The way he was coaching Reuben to say what he wanted him to say didn`t inspire me.

I have about five different concerns but am fully openminded to the fact it may indeed work. Having said that I currently feel my Iron X and a quick clay is less invasive. Seems like a possibility you could swirl your paint up using a machine to spin grit around. Of course in some situations that wouldn`t matter much on a car that needs compounding.

I`d love to try it but I have enough stuff

once again... would really have to try this.....
After looking at those other 3 videos I agree with both of you.

I would be afraid to pickup something with this system and not know it and end up with scratches. At least with a clay bar you have to knead it and inspect it with each panels. Also I think that in some areas on some cars you would have to tape, again with clay you can get close to delicate objects without problems.

I agree with all that said claying appears to be much faster.

    Re: Nanoskin Autoscrub Pad

Well, I dont know how good this works, since I have yet to see a good close up of the areas that were worked on and wiped dry.

As far as speed goes, it would have to be way faster than a claybar - think about how dirty lower panels are on most cars (not ours, because we Detail them!), and how much time it takes to either clean your claybar or knead it to a clean spot, to only go a small way and its all dirty again, and requires cleaning, kneading, etc...

And, since its being used with a Random Orbital, there isn`t really a reason to tape up anything - just slow down close to things, stay away from them, or don`t go near them at all. A Random Orbital is so much easier to control than a Rotary.

If the "disk" is self-cleaning or something, then plowing through dirty rocker panels, etc., should not present any extra marring either.

I would have to think that if this works great and doesn`t mar the paint ever, and leaves it really clean or cleaner than a claybar and/or these Iron-x products, then it would have to be faster since there is no stopping to clean, just spray and go, one pass, no extra applications of chemicals, etc...

I need to google this thing and see what I find.. Update - www.nanoskinusa.com
Its located in La Habra, CA., their website is still under some construction, as all products are not really there yet, no pricing, but found the 6" autoscrub pad on Amazon for $49.95 - YIKES !! They show 3", 4" and 6" pads on website.. And a whole lot of other stuff as well.
Anybody out here in California want to go over to Harbor Blvd and check them out?

    Here`s what I`ve read...

You must use the "special" lube
    It`s kinda like 5000-6000 sanding.
It cuts your clay time by 2/3rds

    Clay pulls out and removes.
To me this is more like grinding.

    Re: Nanoskin Autoscrub Pad

I agree this is more like grinding but clay doesn`t pull out as much as it shaves the tops off. You need Ironx to get in and dissolve the entire iron particle without cutting the paint to get to the contamination. Of course for organic contaminants like tar you need TarX or some other solvent that is safe, but clay does a good job of getting that stuff too.

"Special" lube.... I wonder if it`s "special" in the same way as the Ultima `gel` lube for the elastrofoam kit....

Given that it is like fine-grit sanding, it kinda necessitates polishing afterward, so it`s less than ideal if you`re just planning to do a wash/wax. And, like with machine sanding, there`s the potential to create pigtails; depending on the size of the particulate(s) that cause it, correction of those could become a major problem.

If one wanted to use fine-grit sanding as an alternative to clay, a better choice would be to pick up 6000 grit MicroMesh and go at it by hand. I`ve played with that method myself and while it can be effective, I`m still a fan of clay.

    Re: Nanoskin Autoscrub Pad

I saw their demo at SEMA and asked a ton of questions. There were two different products available as lubes when doing their demonstration. One was a lube and wax combo with the other being a lube only. As mentioned previously in this thread it appears this system is basically a foam backed rubber pad with tiny nubs that actually sand off the above surface contaminants. The rep actually took me out to the Hilton parking lot and by hand with no machine used it on a pick-up truck being loaded by another vendor. The results on the filthy sap covered finish wasn`t bad with no apparent marring. He was using the lube/wax combo sort of like a one step deal. This product may have been actually filling the defects to obtain this finish. After going back inside he demoed the lube with no wax on a black test panel. Some marring was present as you might see when using a aggressive clay. I can see the advantage of this system on production type work but with the OCD in most of us we might not find a space for this in our arsenal.Being a sucker for the flavor of the month club I will most likely give it a hands on trial.
