Water pressure affects on pressure washer

So I have a gas pressure washer that was given to me and I wanted to ask the community if there is a standard for water pressure into the unit.

Where I live has really low water pressure because of the age of the main water line to the house from the street. I don`t want to ruin the pressure washer by providing a very low input pressure.

Should I go with an electric model? Do they need less input pressure?? If I had to guess I would say I have less than 40# of pressure at the hose end.

    Thanks for any input.

The standard household pressure is 42 to 50 where I live. We have plenty of water flow and if you`re around 40, it sounds like you have plenty of water flow to the equipment.

I had run a gas one at 35 to 40 psi but my problem was flow (needed 3 gpm so really need a 3+ flow). I have a had a well system that could not keep up (low output well pump and small holding tank.)

pressure is not the problem, volume is what is required which usually between 2-3.5 gpm depending on your washer

So I decided to just keep the gas unit. I went to home depot and bought a gun, wand, quick connects, tips and the foam attachment.

I played with it for a few minutes tonight. The gun works great, has a solid feel to it. The foam attachment works well, I sprayed the garage siding with it. I can`t wait to clean a car now with this, I`m sure I have been missing out with getting crap rinsed off the car before washing.
