    hey guys

I`ve used Gunk in the past and I really can`t stand the smell - sad I know. Can anyone recommend a good UK product? The engine of my potential new golf is being ripped out next week and I want to give the engine bay and new engine a good clean before it goes back in.

    Cheers

I`m sure I spotted just one spec of dust on your radiator there....... next time try and get that a little cleaner.....!

Nice engine detailing. I`d love to get my Supra engine looking that good.

Does AG leave any residue or harm aluminium parts Rich? I used APC+ on the 205 and it discoloured the top mount, alternator etc etc - now have all new due to new engine but filthy and I REALLY want to sort the bay out - fancy a trip to Basingstoke some time?

I`ve tidied up the wiring and cleaned behind the headlights (all off as valance being painted - by me) plus painted the bonnet catch and cleaned the washer bottle but I`m struggling with the block and ancillaries - plan is to buy lots of new bits where needed but last time I cleaned the engine itself, I had a *slight* misfire issue afterwards....

Has not caused any damge to ali in the past for me. Saying that the top mounts on the 205 go funny anyway.

I follow up the metal parts after with metal polish, if you dont use to much pressure on bits when rubbing it cleans them up nicley and retains the factory look with out making them look shiny and polished. I have had great sucess lightly cleaning Pug engine parts this way and most recently the metal work and exhaust under the Clio.

Bits like this ( ie the cast inlet manifold, engine mounts on the 205) should clean up nicely with metal polish light pressure on the rag and a soft wire brush.

Sounds like you are busy then, progress pics yeah I hate cleaning XU 205 and 309 lumps due to the dodgy electrics. You need to cover so much you cant clean half off it. I am not sure I will be much off a help to you!

Yeah, getting there slowly mate....there`s a Drivers` South Meet next Sunday and that`s probably the last time she`ll be out before the winter. Plan this far is to take out the engine & box, clean engine bay and repair corrosion below servo/MC and repaint where needed, remove all trim/bumpers, replace front wing (drivers` side) with a proper Pug one, new trim & bumpers, 1.9 hubs/driveshafts and get those Goodwoods on (once refurbed) - plus loads more little jobs as they pop up!

Oops, too late it seems, but I`ve been really pleased with 303 Aerospace Cleaner, made up at 1:20. Left everything really fresh after a 10 minute soak and hose off.
