Best way to reach engine to detail it

So Todd`s 15 minute engine detail inspired me to get in there and actually detail my engine soon, only problem - its hard to get into some of those tight places to clean!

For hard to reach areas of engines what do you guys do to get in there and get it clean?

Mid-engine layout is great for handling but sucks for cleaning or engine access period! What do you suggest for reaching those tight spaces best? I`m all for work smarter not harder so I ask before jumping in and just doing on things like this.

    Engine access

    Filty engine

Formerly the "Best Detailer", now just Super Wax Waster Man. Not necessarily tactful, but normally right. It`s good to be da King !!!

Steam if you can, if not apc, mask off holes and a power washer.

The Wheel Woolies Brush I used for the write up should work well, provided your arms are long enough.

Its a process just to get that far into the engine!

Open the top 12 inches, unsnap two clips, remove two cables that secure the bottom of the top, use attached bungee to hold up the lower portion of the top, remove rear carpeted deck, remove aluminum engine cover and you finally made it to the engine! 5-10 mins just to gain access so the 15 minute detail will take me a bit longer. lol

When I took the car to get smogged the tech wanted to see the engine and I told him that`s not happening unless he knows how to access it and is going to do all the work himself on it. Needless to say I got the pass after he could not figure out how to find the engine.

Thanks for the link to the cayman - I didnt find that one in my search.

The only streamer I have is a garment steamer but I may try to see if I can get that to work or attempt to fab a nozzle for it to be a bit more direct with the steam.

Wheel woolies may be on my next purchase.
