    Cleaning of Tire Brushes

I did a search but couldn`t find a thread to answer my question. What is the best way to clean a tire brush? I have a hard brisle tire brush that has old silicon tire gel stuck on it. I`d like to know how some of the pros here maintain and clean their tire brushes. Thanks in advanced.

How long do you let it soak? I`ve used APC full strength on mine but no luck.

I completely agree. I have a cheap tire brush from Target. Not sure what the bristles are made out of but is there a difference?

sometimes apc may not be enough. my tire brushes can get pretty contaminated with just roadway grease that builds up on tires and wheels. give Meguiar’s Super Degreaser Concentrate, 1 Gallon at try. a gallon is used diluted with water and will last a long time. good for engine compartment detailing too and pretty inexpensive.

    Re: Cleaning of Tire Brushes

There was only one time I couldnt get my tire brush clean with the strong tire cleaner I use.

I had just used it on a car that must have had years of tire dressing build up on her tires that gunked up my tire brush with about an inch of nasty dressing that wouldnt budge with any of my cleaners.

I finally got it clean by putting it in boiling water and melted it off .Think I used a towel to help clean the nasty sludge off~!

Should have just thrown it out but I hate throwing anything away!

I think I`m going to try the boiling water idea. This stuff on it is like tar. Thanks for the idea.

Exactly. If you scrub them clean and there is still some staining, they should still work great!

I have never had an issue with using most any APC.

    Re: Cleaning of Tire Brushes

Mine never get new looking but after a quick soak on TAW and a good rinse, there is no transfer onto a MF towel I am good to go. I was hung up on cleaning these perfectly and now as long as they don`t transfer dirt onto a MF towel I consider them good enough..

    Re: Cleaning of Tire Brushes

Thanks fellas for the advice. When I touch the tips with my hand it leaves my hand dirty even after washing the brush with APC. I will try letting the brush sit in some APC over night to see if that helps any.

I use the Tuf Shine brush and it rinses clean every time (with a strong stream of water). It`s still white.

I was also thinking of picking it up. Looks like a great tire brush and from the vids I`ve seen of people using it it washes clean every time.
