Is it an acid based wheel cleaner?

I`ve been using aluminum brightener for rims. The funny thing is, it`s unsafe on aluminum. You spray it on, then spray it off, and it leaves nothing but a nice shine. First time I used it I couldn`t get over how nice my rims looked. They looked way better than any other rim cleaner I`ve used.
    Get your shine on!

I just use the purple stuff at full strength. 5 gallons for $7 bucks. Can`t really beat it, even if I do need to spray it once or twice more than the more expensive stuff.

Purple power or Meg`s APC at FS if I`m doing an auction car. If it`s a personal vehicle I find my favorite is Tuf Shine cleaner. It was pricey so I bought a gallon. It doesn`t take a lot so you can stretch it a bit. Sometimes I spray Meg`s, scrub, then Tuf cleaner. Afterwards I apply Tuf Shine dressing, it`s been my favorite for more of a matte look that lasts a damn long time.

Re: best wheel cleaner you have used

The question is very tough to answer. The most effective wheel cleaner will be a strong acid blend, however it will not be safe on sensitive finishes or even slightly damaged wheels. A very mild and LSP safe wheel cleaner will almost certainly have a much lower cleaning power than the previous. Then there are products in the middle - non-acid cleaners. These can be biased towards the safe side (generally non-caustic i.e. non-hydroxide) or the more potent side (strong hydroxide blends which can be almost as corrosive as the strong acids). So it depends what you want to achieve. As some have said, they will have multiple products because it is almost impossible for a single product to do everything.
