Well, after following the advice of this group, I detailed the outside of my car this weekend. Here`s what I did:

    Dawn wash

EF Powerwash (used Chenille mitt both washes)

    Clayed with Pinnacle

    QD with Meguirs

    AIO

SG (2 coats cured for 1 whole day)

    Blitz (2 thin coats)

    Did lights w/ Plexus

    Glass with Stoners

    Vinyl trim with 303

    QD again

Used EF whateveritscalled on the wheels and waxed rims with Blitz

I wish I had a digital camera. My IS 300 looked better than the day I bought it. I say "looked" because it rained the next day!

So, on one hand I have to say thanks to everyone here. You guys have been a big help. Really a nice board (unlike some others I hang out on).

Now on the other hand, I need to ask a question: What can I wash it with that can clean the rain spots off without stripping all that stuff off?

Use a quick detialer if you are referring to water spots after the rain.

I do not suggest you use vingear on the paint.

Vinegar will probably remove some of the wax or SG you applied. If you can`t remove the water spots with a QD then you can try the vinegar.

i gotta imaine that u tried a QD already.i mean thats what most peeps do...then it didnt work so you wrote here for info...so assuming the QD didnt work...then use the vinegar...full strenght....IMHO....i would reKlasse the sites that i used the vinegar on....but i dont use K so youll have to wait for those others to answer.....pretty much like Wax said...............

BTW........Michael H....why so down on the vinegar dood??

Waterspots from rain? I`m with FLONI...I`d do a complete rewash, even if it`s only been 2 days since your major detail.

Brings up a question this Newbie has been wondering about... How dirty is too dirty to QD?

Well, too dirty would probably be if your car had lots of dirt that could scratch the paint. Mine only had water spots which is probably okay to QD. BTW, it is looking fine again!

I am not against vingear, but he had just done all that detailing and if the water marks were simply to remove the rain spots, vingear is a big time overkill - actually the wrong solution. I have learnt that when people say water spots that can actually mean possibly three things:

    1) water spots after rain (QD does the job here)

    2) hard water deposits (which vingear will remove)

    3) acid rain damage - use the vingear on your french fries it will do more good - we are talking rotary buffer or new paint job now!

We needed to know exactly what was meant, hence my reply.
    Regards

Definitely rewash before trying the quick detailer route. Much safer. Laters
