I use Megs APC+. But I keep hearing good things about this Eimann Fabrik tire cleaner, might have to give it a shot.

There are many good products out there. I personally use many different types. Simple-green-mix, Mothers, Eagle one, Amazing Roll Off, Duragloss, Meguiars, Blackfire Gel, Wolfgang Gel. They all work in different ways depending on the condition of the tires.

Tyre Cleaners: For any type of protectant to work well on rubber first remove any brake dust, road tar, grease and grime, wax and dead rubber from the surface to properly clean it. A tyre cleaner needs to be strong enough to tackle a heavy build-up of tyre dressings and road grime, but not damage wheel coatings.

It should clean the tyres down to the original rubber surface, this is especially important when you apply a new dressing, as dressings won`t adhere to, or create the right shine on dirty rubber. This tyre cleaner is a strong concentrate; spray-and-rinse tyres, without scrubbing, if you are starting on an old, neglected surface, use a fairly stiff tyre brush for the first application and a spray & rinse at least 3-4 times a year - HiTemp Tyre Cleaner

I have some Eimann Fabrik tire cleaner on the way. Tried out some Amazing Roll off 1:1 w/ water and it cleaned the tires very well on the seldom washed Range Rover I am working on this week. I also used the Eimann Fabrik Hi-Intensity Cleaner on a few sets of tires and it gets the job done too.

Eagle One Tire Cleaner was the best tire cleaner in the world. It may have been the best car care product ever made.

Now that it`s gone (besides the few bottles in my stash), I use a good APC which does a fine job. Buy a gallon, dilute it 5:1 or so and enjoy a good value cleaner.

I want to steal some of your EF tire cleaner and do a shootout against Eagle One, just to see. OK?

Sure thing. Shame can`t get the E1 anymore. Think it was a VOC thing?

I love EO Tire Cleaner. I remember when Sears was clearing out all of their EO stuff. I got bottles for a $1 and still have a couple left. I just got some Amazing Roll Off and have to compare the two.

Please share your home brew version on the tire cleaner. I have heard of the simple-green mix as well...is it 50/50 mix?

I have several APC`s but the one I use most on tires is Auto Magic 777. I have two dilutions, 4:1 and 8:1 in 32oz spray bottles.

A 2:1 dilution of an APC would be pretty aggressive. About the only time I`d use that is if a tire was coated in a nasty, oil tire shine gunk. Sometimes you need the strongest cleaning power to remove that crud from tires.

EFHI works awesome but it`s a bit spendy when you include shipping costs. I can buy Auto Magic locally for under $10/gallon and it works fine for general APC needs.

No, I think it has to do with Ashland`s buyout of E1. Back in the day, E1 made some very high quality products that were quite unique. After the sale to Ashland, most of those products were discontinued, probably due to high cost and low sales.

Hi Pat, yeah, I snapped up as much as I could from Sears. I just went to the garage and checked on my stash, 6 full bottles left. I try not to use a lot of it but no other tire cleaner makes white letters pop as much as E1, so that`s what I save it for. Let us know how the comparo goes, I`d love to find another cleaner that works similarly to E1TC. Thanks!

50/50 mix of Simple Green is too agressive for anything, even my gas grill.

4:1 is still agressive (but works on the grill as long as I rise it well). I typically use 8:1 with SG.
