Engine bay chrome- Need some ideas

Doing my first extensive engine detail soon.



it will be clean already so if anything spray and wipe touch up.

My goal here is to polish the chrome. Its got some nice damage too. And im not exactly sure how aggressive I want to get.

Products I have that I have considered using...

Via hand or of course i have my Nano

Poorboy`s chrome, and hd metal (on backorder right now)

a variety of light polishes- pro polish was my thought there

The lsp was my other concern

Not sure what to do there.

pbl wheel sealant?
Should i just buy some PA supersport wheel coating?

What do you all think.

I want this engine bay to blind people at the shows.

Also, should I be worried about using any products with specific chemicals in them that might be flammable considering this is an engine bay he has a supercharger and runs nitrous and I think possibly even meth injection as well.

I wouldn`t worry about the NOS/methanol as those are (hopefully!) sealed systems.

I have a hunch some of that is polished aluminum. I would use mothers power cone with metal polish.

Damage defined as swirls, looks user induced

That`s another thing. I`m not sure about chrome vs polished aluminum etc.

I just think either Poorboy`s chrome or hdetal (probably not needed) would fit the bill.

Also have the pinnacle exhaust brightener paste
And
Sonax chrome paste
But don`t think those would be best here


Also have all the power ball sets, except the cone coz the glue separated from the pad

Yep, it is forever. You can`t "polish" chrome. I don`t recommend using anything that isn`t meant for chrome or even a polisher. Grab some blue Wenol from ACC and shine it up really good by hand.

If you want to use what you have on hand, then Pro Polish will work on both the aluminum and the chrome .. using a power ball etc .. may save you time, but it could also create a mess .. I would probably use cotton towels by hand and rub you arse off ... PP2 can be used if the aluminum needs a bit more cut ..

The pipes to the supercharger look polished, but the intake manifold looks like it is chrome or some type of coating. I agree, do it by hand until you know what you are messing with.

I can confirm the manifold, SC, throttle body, and dress up kit is polished aluminum.

I`m not sure about the SC piping and custom reservoirs (check with a plastic coated magnet).

For best results I think you`ll need an assortment of tools and products.

If the metal scratches and swirls aren`t too bad, I always end up reaching for Optimum Metal Polish. It`s a medium-light cut that finishes down really nice.





You can get really good results by hand, I like the Lake Country Eurofoam applicators. Just make sure to constantly shake whatever product you end up using. I find the solid abrasive separate from the detergents pretty quickly on most metal polishes. Work in SMALL areas for best results.



It`s easy to try and tackle the entire manifold at once, but you`ll get better results by working in small sections.





If after using the least aggressive method first (finishing metal polish + hand applicator) you still notice deeper scratches, then you`ll need to use a Metal Compound with a wool pad or wool ball first. If it`s really bad, you can always wet sand first. But it doesn`t look like you`ll need to do that.

I have used Wenol in red and blue box for years and it always works fine..

Awhile back, I tried the Optimum liquid metal polish in that plastic bottle and it really works great on polished stainless steel, and actually leaves a coating on that tailpipe that stays there for awhile.. It has what I believe, a mild media and a chemical to do the work..
It is not as black turning all the towels messy as some products in the tube...

Yeah, this is something you want to go easy with to start - because if there is any chrome, remember that chrome is a very thin coating and once its gone, you cannot get it back without taking the part off and having it go through the dipping in the liquids all over again...

Going to be in that engine bay for a few hours... It will look very nice when done though...
Hmmm, wonder if Opti-Seal Spray would stick to the finished products....
