    Under The Hood

Because of my paranoia of getting a component wet and ruining it, I only clean my engine compartment at home. I put the nozzle of my garden hose on a light spray/mist combo and rinse it off once a week. The hood stays up all day to get air dried while I detail the interior.

    Anyone else do the same?

I will help the drying along with my shop vac on blow. Then out comes the SONUS.

What can SONUS MOTOR KOTE do for you?

Also only do this at home.

    Re: Under The Hood

I have used pressure washers on engines and compartments for decades..

The only thing that might happen on vehicles with an actual Distributor, wiring and an exposed coil is that sometimes moisture built up under the Distributor cap, and you had to have a screwdriver to pop it open and wipe it out with a towel..

Fords were the worst for this because the Distributor was in front of the engine, while all GM`s had the Distributor on the back of the engine, center of the Firewall..

Today`s engines are pretty well sealed up and the only thing that happens is that you have a very clean engine and compartment...

And of course, you have to have common sense and think about what you are spraying and how it would react to a lot of water hitting it there..

On most cars, a certain amount of water gets in there anyway when it`s raining or driving through rain from the road, and the Engineers have taken all that into some degree of consideration when they built and placed all those parts in the first place..

Truewood- Hey, IMO whatever`s working for you is good in my book

I myself dry things off, in part to prevent waterspots, and wipe everything down each time, but then I spend a crazy amount of time on such stuff

    Oh, and Welcome to Autopia!

    Re: Under The Hood

The first few time`s I was ultra paranoid and only used spray bottles, but I saw a youtube video of a reputable detailer soaking down a 6.1 Hemi and figured if he can do it without harm so can I. Over time I started using more and more water.

My last engine bay wash I recently did I went totally banana`s (rinsed, degreased, rinsed, APC`ed, rinsed, degreased agian, rinsed, APC`ed again, rinsed) because I awas applying CarPro Dlux. I would say I`d say I used around 50 gallons of water directly in the engine bay and all I did was wrap up my alternator with two layers of plastic bags (no other prep). My air filter was off as I was cleaning it in preparation for racing (CAI K&N washable cone filter).

I spent about 2 hours applying the coating everywhere and by then it was mostly dry. Started right up without any issue. Did some WOT pulls and timing was spot on (0 short knock even at WOT).
