PB Spray & Rinse Wheel Cleaner, Megs D143 or.....................?

So I`m looking for a good wheel and tire cleaner that I can buy in bulk (1gal). Usually I use Sonax or IronX for wheels and Mothers foaming wheel and tire cleaner for tires but I`m looking to save some money on quick jobs where iron remover`s aren`t really necessary. Any recommendations?

I`ve been using D143 for more than a year and it`s a good wheel ad tire cleaner. It can diluted to adjust it`s cleaning strength. As long as you follow this it will work really well for you.

Pulled this from the Meguiar`s forum

    Product Attributes:

    • Effective and easy cleaning on wheels and tires
    • Quickly removes brake dust, road grime, light grease and dirt
    • Spray on, lightly agitate, hose off
    • Secondary bottle available (part number D20143PK12)

With a formulation similar to our Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire Cleaner, D143 is a non acid wheel and tire cleaner that quickly strips away brake dust and road grime, cleaning not only the wheels but the tire side walls as well. Not to be used on bare aluminum, anodized or powdercoated finishes.

Sounds like I should be happy with either one then. I think I will order a gallon of both. I think shipping would kill me on 5 gallons Ron or else I would loved to be that stocked. Thanks for the input guys!

Remember, pb says it can be diluted 50/50

You can buy 10 liters of SONAX Wheel Cleaner Full Effect for $159.99 on our store.

Then use the 15% off coupon from the last sale = $135.99

Then receive double points from buying a SONAX item = 270 points = $10 to use on your next order. (almost $15)

Then you can dilute the wheel cleaner 1:1 to make 20 liters.

So $135.99 for 20 liters of SONAX Wheel Cleaner Full Effect and you get 270 points to use on your next order.

Wow, that`s thinking outside the box, Ray!

To the OP, last I heard that Poorboy`s wheel cleaner contains ammonium bifluoride, if that makes any difference to you.

That is a great deal. I just can`t swing that much right now. Have you ever diluted FE? I never even knew you could.

I don`t know anything about the different chemicals but I did look that up and maybe I should stay away from the acidic wheel cleaners. That`s why I was thinking D143 non-acidic but I also love PB stuff so I was thinking about having that on hand too. Now I`m not so sure.

There are acidic wheel cleaners that are not HF/ABF, the one I have used is Valugard Chrome Wheel Cleaner (which is oxalic acid IIRC). Meguiar`s used to have an OTC citric acid based cleaner, but they seem to change those products all the time so I`m not sure what they have now. The Meg`s Wheel Brightener is HF.

The main problem is that the HF/ABF products need special neutralizing agents, you can`t just use anything alkaline like with other acids. Of course, nothing works as well as HF/ABF.

I don`t think I am cautious enough to use those products then. I want something that the fumes won`t kill me and won`t burn my skin. I`m pretty good about wearing gloves while working and "most" of the time eye protection but mask not so much. Isn`t oxalic acid what they find in uncooked vegetables?

Re: PB Spray & Rinse Wheel Cleaner, Megs D143 or.....................?

I just looked it up, sorry, it`s the VG Custom Wheel Cleaner, and it has citric and dicarbolic acid in it, it`s the decon "B" (of the ABC system) that has oxalic (along with citric and sulfuric). I have both, but I got them well before the latest MSDS version (2013), which is maybe why I don`t remember the citric acid (since the formula may have changed since I bought mine).

You still don`t want to breathe any acid mist (we`ve all choked on vinegar), but the HF/ABF products have their own issues (plenty of people will disagree) and IMO the use of those products should be relegated to a more controlled environment (as opposed to your driveway).

Maybe our chemist can mix the two wheel cleaners at 50/50.
    Just kidding

After I found out from a SONAX rep that FE can be diluted 1:1 I gave it a shot on the next detail. This was a Toyota Camry I did back around Aug 2013.

You can see the diluted FE in this picture.

I remember it worked just as well as full strength on these wheels, but I`m sure it wouldn`t work as well on wheels that are caked with brake dust. But great for the price.
