Standard M8 metric washers from the hardware store will fit right in -- and work perfect.

Standard M8 metric washers from the hardware store will fit right in -- and work perfect.

I would lean towards using the correct size washer and "grinding the edges to fit tight. By doing so the wash can`t "spin" and grind its way into the backing plate. That is why I would worry about using the M8 washer.

I saw 1 picture where the washer had worked its way into the backing plate by almost a 1/16" when using the M8.
