Oil Extractor

Has anyone had success with this device when attempting to drain, flush, and refill antifreeze/coolant?

I would be interested in using it for my next antifreeze/coolant change as my car is low to the ground and it can be difficult to gain access to the drain valve.

You can find them cheaper. You can get a little electric pump for like $20. I used an elctric deal for my trans fluid. One end went into the trans and the other into a bucket. The job went nice and fast.

I picked one up from TheToolwharehouse.com a lot less than Griots, damn near identical. I use to change my oil, i can do an oil change in a white shirt with that thing. I alternate each other change I use the plug just in case there are any solids not being extracted. So far im amazed how much oil it gets out, as good or better than the plug believe it or not.



Handy for a number of uses. I bet BillD will chime in, it was his post that prompted me to buy. I would highly recomend buying one, just not at griots

So if I was to use the extractor for an antifreeze/coolant change, I am assuming I would stick it into the radiator and extract?

This extractor is one of my most favorite tools, second only to the polishers . It makes oil, trans fluid and coolant (out of the recovery bottle) SO much easier. I even ordered seperate tubes from the factory for use with one kind of fluid only.



I got mine from Overtons.com but I think they may no longer carry it. I believe several other online vendors do sell it. Go for it, I really think you will like it :up

Still will have to get under the car to change the filter but it would make it a whole lot less messy.

LOL,same here, I had to throw out many work shirts in the past due to oil seepage. Now I probably could change the oil in my "Sunday`s best" in a pinch

Absolutely, my first change on the Audi required me to get under the car ,hopefully next time not since this time the filter is not bolted on with an air gun this time :rolleyes. There`s no doubt it makes extracting and disposing of oil extremely easier :xyxthumbs

I`ve been considering getting one of these myself, but was always wondering if the extraction tube would fit in place of the oil dipstick. It seems that nothing thicker than a piece of wire could fit in there. Has anyone had any problems "sticking it in there" or extracting all of oil ?

Nope, on every car I ever used it on, the thin tube fits and extractors properly everytime

fits in My BMW and my Gf`s Honda. The Tool Warhouse model and im sure the others, come with two sizes of tubing for different applications.

Lots of TDI guys use it because on new TDI`s, the oil filter is a spin on, accessible from the top.



My TDI has the older type spin on, but still, sucking it out is still better than with gravity.



Sucking it often removes more oil because it creates a vacuum inside the oil pan. Neat.



Most boat house will have Pela`s.



Here in Quebec, I can get a Pela 6000 (6 litres reservoir) for about 50CAD plus tax.:xyxthumbs

When I get a veh. that I can change the filter (trans. & oil) from the top then I`ll consider the extractor.

Or maby I just like laying under the car..I dun-know.....
