2010 Malibu Rotary Correction + CQUK

I was contacted by a woman on Facebook who had seen this writeup http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums/...orrection.html and wanted something similar for her car. She also expressed interest in having a coating applied, so after several messages back and forth going over our different options, she decided on the VIP Package My best friend let me use his shop for a couple days since it was close to where she lived, because I knew this wasn`t something that was going to be accomplished in a matter of hours.

I started with the trunk area, then moved on to the interior. Thankfully neither was too bad, and just needed a good going over. A combination of the Mytee Firebird steamer, 3D Orange, HD Touch, HD Glass, and Megs Hyper Dressing was used to accomplish this. The carpet was cleaned using a DA brush on the GG6 polisher, and the seats were cleaned using the rotary and wool method.

Using the Flex Swirl Finder light to inspect my work

Seats, carpet, and headliner was given 2 coats of HD Fabric Protector

Wash - HD Wash 2 bucket method, 1Z Colortec, 3D Orange, IronX, Medium Grade Speedy Prep Towel, Microfiber Madness Dry Me Crazy drying towel

Once the car was clean and decontaminated, the true condition of the car was exposed.

After trying a few different combos, HD Adapt and purple foamed wool pads on the rotary seemed to be giving me the best cut and finish. I knew this was going to be at least a 2 step correction no matter what, so the slight swirls left from the foamed wool was ok since I was going to be doing another polishing step.

Even with the foamed wool pads on the rotary, the swirls left from Adapt are so slight that I could barely photograph them.

The rear of this car was the worst of it. I knew this area would never in a million years be 100% because there were several scratches that would catch a fingernail, but were too fine to touch up. I did touch up what I could though, then sanded the deck lid and rear bumper with 2000 and 3000. (Thankfully the owner gave me the green light to remove that ugly dealer sticker while I was at it)

The Adapt/foamed wool combo worked great in removing the 3000 grit sanding scratches. I went back around the entire car with HD Polish on white B&S pads via DeWalt rotary to remove the light swirls that the foamed wool left behind.

I then moved on to the headlights which wasn`t in bad condition, but just needed cleaning up a bit.

After working 15 hours on day one, sleeping on a couch in the shop, and getting back up after 5 hours of sleep to start polishing again, it was finally good enough to apply CQUK.

I do have to apologize for the dark after pics. I didn`t finish this car until 7:30 at night, and the sun was barely peeking out from behind the houses.

I don`t care for this pic too much because the deck lid didn`t turn out 100% perfect, but its much better than before.

Along with the paint coating, all glass was polished with Ceriglass, and the windshield was coated with Flyby30. Wheels and stainless trim was polished with HD Metal, and also coated with CQUK. Black Wow Pro was used on all exterior plastics as well as the engine, and Blackfire Tire Gel was used to give the tires the over the top gloss that the rest of the car was sporting.

Total time on this car was 27 hours start to finish. Thanks for looking
