2007 Jaguar XKR - 3 Step Paint Correction by Mr. Sparkle Detailing - Long Island, NY

New client contacted me about his Jaguar XKR which had seen better days. He stopped by one afternoon for an estimate and it was just covered in swirls. We looked things over under my LED lights, took some paint measurements, and discussed some options. He told me he was pretty sure he was in the right place, and booked a multi step paint correction to get things looking right once again.

Did the usual wash / clay routine. Nothing too exciting. I did use the speedy prep towel (fine) and once again, soft paint and the speedy prep left behind a fair amount of marring. It was the least of my concerns really given that a correction was planned anyway, but just worth noting as I have in the past.

Taped the car off which included a sheet over the fabric top and covered some edges as well for the initial cutting. Had a feeling I`d be getting aggressive and with soft paint and some inconsistent readings with the paint gauge I took the extra precaution.

Some before photos of the hood. I told you it wasn`t pretty.

Got to work and eventually settled on a 3 step combo I was happy with. Paint was soft, but not terrible to work with. Mix of tools, products and pads which included

Makita 9227c, Flex PE, Flex 3401, Griots DA, Porter Cable 7424

Lake country PFW, Megs MF pads, LC white

    Megs M100 - Megs D300 - Menzerna SF4000

50/50 of my test spot. Honestly, a bit of a haze remains in the photo which I recognized and later refined the process a bit to get D300 to finish down better before final polishing

Worked my way around the car and after 2 days of work, we get the following before and after photos

We`ll start with the hood as shown from earlier

    Trunk Lid

    Quarter panel

    Passenger door

Yours truly making it happen on the passenger side

    Under the mirror drivers side

Even spent some time on the taillights

Finished it off with Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant applied by DA. I opened the hood to clean out some dust while the sealant cured. The hood flips forward on this car. I then buffed a small spot where the lights were hitting it. Perhaps too many hours in the garage, but I clearly see one of those Pac Man ghosts. My garage gnome saw it too.

Anyway... glory shots. Did not document in photos, but the chrome wheels were stained badly. Spent a combined hour hand polishing. First with s100 soap during the wash then later Poorboys Pro Polish with an mf towel

Took it outside for a moment for a final inspection and of course to make the neighbors drool

Deep reflection in the paint as you can see

What can I say? I take things pretty seriously in here.

Don`t worry I see the ghost too, but I too spent a few hours in the shop today. Awesome work on the car!
