    Greg Gellas Coats a Z06....

I had a friend contact me to do an opti-coat on is new Z06. What do you do when you have another car scheduled already, put them to work I knew he was more than capable, so he helped me every step of the way. We started with the wheels with some Sonax FE, Wheel woolies, and a boars hair brush. They were maintained and very clean, so we moved on to surface decontamination. The entire car was washed with Iron-x soap gel, CG citrus wash and clear, and dawn. I mixed 1/3rd of each into the foam gun and diluted it about half way with water.

After a 2 bucket method we were left with no more beading, only sheeting left. We followed up with a Nanokin pad to ensure any contaminates were removed. I know there is nothing left on the surface that may cause some issues with application of the opti-coat.

Overall the paint was probably 90% perfect, there were some random RIDS that needed to get taken care of. Other than that the previous owner truly took care of the car!

After some spot polishing, we went over the entire car with car-pro eraser. I chose eraser, as I feel IPA "dries" out paint too much. It`s a great alternative for polishing oil removal.

Luckily, I was able to get him to assist in the opt-coat application. I knew he was capable, he just had to stop being "afraid of it." After the first panel, he was perfect. He was able to feel the grip on the applicator when there wasn`t enough product and leveling came second nature to him. He is a car guy, and has done some basic detailing so I knew he would be fine.

What`s that in the foreground? That`s what I got to work on for the day.

I will say that the next day I got a text, and he said "oh this opti coat is legit...its crazy glossy now" I knew he would be happy with opti-coat and the protection it provides would be perfect for him. Some times silver cars don`t show gloss amazing. It can be difficult to make silver POP! We made that happen!

Wow the Z06 wears silver well and a silver Z06 wears Opti-Coat well. I am guess that is a Hummer in the foreground? (I really have no idea). Maybe an H1?
