    First time polishing G35

    Hi guys,

I just found this forum through Rasky and figured I would post up my pictures of my very first take at claying, polishing, and even waxing my 2005 G35.

All the work was done using a Griots DA and I do want to say that none of this would have been done without the help of Todds great write ups, and other members articles and contributions to my questions. Thanks.

It took me long time to finish my car, somewhere around 30+ hrs but I got it done and lost 8 lbs along the way :hurray:

    Body Paint
Wash: CG Citrus Wash paint prep ratio 2 bucket method
Clay: Mothers Clay and QD also used Meguiars QD (needed more)
Polish: 3" backing plate and 5.5" backing plate on Griots DA
    3.5" yellow w/ 105 for RIDS
    5.5" LC orange 105
    LC white 205
Final Polish: Gray and Red m205
Wash again: CG citrus wash paint prep ratio 2B
Rinse: Nomad with DI water (It worked!)
Paint Prep: EZ Cream Glaze II on red pad by hand
Sealant: Black Fire Wet Diamond on red pad by hand (1 coat)

    Muffler Tips
    Meguiars APC 4:1
    0000 Wool
    Mothers Mag Alloy Polish

    Tires/Wheels
    Meguiars APC 4:1
    Mothers FX tire shine

    fishnugget,
First of all, welcome to TID. This is a great place to learn from. If Chad sent you to us, you know that you are in good hands.

Very nice work on the Infinity. That was your first attempt at paint correction? Not bad at all!!!!!:hurray::thumbup::clap:

That was a great first post!!

Welcome to TID btw, lots of great people here and some very helpful info as well! :soldier:

Pic up that gold LC pad from PAC and you`ll never wax a car by hand again.

    Thanks Rasky,

I am noticing that the fun in detailing isn`t so much with leaving your car immaculate but rather testing out products. I will be sure to order those gold pads on my next order.

....lol, and that`s how you end up with tons of unused products on your shelves like most of us here.

Yeah, just ask Rasky and others how addictive it is to `try` stuff out.. starts out small and then they cannot find room in the garage to put their car

    Wow, that is a beautiful G35 !!!
    Great gloss, very clear !!!

Did you detail out the interior and engine compartment too?

Yes, sometimes these things take a long time, but boy when you finish, and see the results - especially the way yours turned out ! It makes it all worth it, right ?

Glad you posted this, as I have been working on a Client`s G35s in my garage; I have just finished the very hammered interior, and tomorrow start on the metallic silver paint.

Keep up the great work and welcome to the Forum !

I believe I have already started...Yesterday I picked up Surf City`s Beyond Black tire dressing when I already had a half filled bottle of Mothers FX shine

If only manufacturers sold samples on their products, that would be nice...

Thanks, I was a little scared when I first held the DA but afterwards it became easy.

    Thanks Dan,

I did detail the engine compartment but did it before I polished. I have not looked at it so I figure there is probably dust all over. I got a high when I saw the Meguiars 10:1 APC melt off the dirt and grime off the engine compartment. It was great to see my engine compartment clean. My interior is in way better shape than the exterior so all I did was use Meguiars Quik Detailer and wipe. I did not have to use any spot treatments on the carpet.

I am really happy with the way the car turned out and you are right, it is very rewarding. I had been wanting to learn to polish my car for a long time but not having a garage always discouraged me. I feel I have learned a skill and am better prepared for car maintenance :Car smiley:

I dont even want to tell my family because I know they are going to make me detail their cars!

Thanks again Dan and post the G35 progress!

You`re going to need some guinea pigs to try out all those new products you`re about to collect.
