What color paint do you think looks shiniest, deepest, and most beautiful when perfectly detailed? I think I`d have to go with a bright red, but what do you think?

Without a doubt, BLACK. Because black looks BAD so easily - and shows defects more than any other color - yet when it is properly detailed, it becomes the best "mirror" of any color.

I would have to agree that red is a close second. But the reason for this is that there are in fact very few colors available from most mfg`s that are NOT metallic. Usually black, red and white only. Non-metallic colors don`t scatter the light like metallics do - even metallic black - so they tend to show flaws much more readily. If there were cars available today in non-metallic colors that were darker than the red, - like a dark brown, blue or black - they would probably come in between red and black.

Without a doubt BLACK. Pretty much agree with carguy.....with the exception of metallics, darker colors benefit the most from a good detail job.

Silver is tough to get a shine on. AWESOME glossy silver cars always amazed me...

But BLACK does look incredible when done right......check out this pic off of the Fbody board of a Z-28 "A" pillar zainoed....

I would have to agree and say black. There is nothing more stunning than a perfectly detailed black car.

So do we like metallic or not? Does it get glossy or does the non-metallic get glossier?

I think the metallic definitely has a different look. Not that mirror shine, but when detailed properly, it looks like the metalic flakes are flowing in the paint. Very striking. I`m not sure if I like one more than the other. But solid black, super slick and shiny is hard to beat (unless its yellow or red or.....)

Black . . . but its a real challenge. Red is good. My car is a compromize: Black Cherry!

I do have a black interior, and that takes work, but at least it is not subject to swirls, like black paint.

I`ve got nothing against metallic - just wasn`t the answer to this question. Metallic cars are easier to maintain - my BMW has metallic "anthracite" and looks almost as good dirty as clean. It has many more swirls than the Porshce (because I can tolerate them) but you just don`t see them. So the difference between a metallic car dirty and clean simply isn`t as great. If you DON`T care about detailing or simply don`t want to have to work as often or hard, metallic is the only way to go! even metallic black has this characteristic. But when truly clean and shiny, it doesn`t look half as good as the non-metallic black car.

Any color on a Vette! Man I`m always blown away when I see a nicely detailed Vette. Silver, Pewter, Black, Red and even Yellow look awesome.
