Yo Puterbum.... about a week or so ago I read a post where you stated you could not find any Turtlewax 2001 tire gel which they are discontinuing and you suggested that maybe it was not available in California. I am up here in Orange County and I found some at Rite Aid. Price was 5.99 for 16 oz. container. I bought a bottle...tried it and liked it. Went back and bought 3 more containers before they go down in detailing history

Wow, cool I didn`t know they had much detailing stuff there. Funny thing is I saw the stuff a week or so ago at an Autozone that didn`t carry them until after I heard it was discontinued!

    To TBone and All:

Have you tried 303 or E1 Concours or anything like that you can compare it to? Oops, I`m breaking my rule, I`ll go search the archives right now, I promise!

I`m in the LA area as well and bought three bottles of TW Formula 2001 at Rite-Aid.

confirmed that TW 2001 Tire gel has been discontinued. I got word last week. I like the product a lot, but once it is used up that`s it......back to Z16 full time for me.

Yo DetailKing....I think it was your post that informed me of the product as well as its demise. Maybe TW will come out with something "New and Improved" !!!

I cannot compare it to the products you mentioned. I have been using Lexol Vinylex. I liked Vinylex enough that I went ahead and purchased a 3 liter container from TOL. To me, it is just a tad more glossier than satin on the tires. Kind of a glossy satin look. On the dash for whatever reason it comes out a lil more glossier. I`m pretty happy with the TW gel also. With 4 bottles of TW gel and 3 liters of Vinylex...I think I`m set for a while

The TW gel holds up a lil better than the Vinylex and gives a higher gloss finish than Vinylex. Also, TW gel is easy to apply, kind of like applying a polish to your tires. It is a somewhat thick liquid, about the consistency of 3M F-2. It doesn`t seem to last as long as the bottle states (what else is new) but it does last longer than all the other products I have used. I applied the first coat and let it sit for an hour then buffed it out pretty good with a terry cloth and then applied a second coat, let the second coat sit for about 20 minutes and ever so lightly buffed it out with terry again. Not sure if these steps and the timing in between are necessary but that is how I did it and the tires looked great.

    1990 Corvette

Okay guys, I have a little red corvette. This one is in for a exterior only along with an engine detail. Exterior was not in that bad of shape for the cars age, few swirls and some deep scratches but not that bad. Started off with a wash of my mix of CGWG and PC. Since this is a droptop it got the full Raggtop treatment. Degreased the engine with TAW and various brushes. Anyway this is hiw it showed up:

The owner asked me about the back window being cleaned so you could see through it. Also he wanted the engine cleaned because he was smelling oil burning and though he might have a leak. While cleaning the engine compartment I found the PCV line disconnected spraying oil vapor all over the engine compartment, hence the burning oil smell! After cleaning up and running the engine to dry no oil smell anymore! I took it in the shop and did a few test spots and settled on Flex 3401 and Menzerna PF with hydro cyan pad.

    Before:

I followed up with Flex 3401 205 and hydro finish pad, came out nice!

    Ready for LSP:

The back window/plasstic was in pretty bad shape, the pictures don`t do it any justice!

Back outside for a wash down (CGCW) dried with blower and blotted with WW, all ready for LSP. CG ez glaze topped with BFWD. I`m really liking the the combo it seems to make BFWD really pop! I`m not a fan of glazes, but this really works good! So here`s the finished product! (9 hours on the clock) Interior was just a wipe down so no pictures.

The owner was pretty stoked, thanks for looking!

    Great job on that Vette:clap:

Did you only use M205 as the finishing polish, because your tape also said PO85rd? If you used both, why did you decide on M205?

No Barry, I did use 205. I tried 85RD with a roatary, but I didn`t like the way it finished out. I also tried 106FA, and normally it looks good on vette paint but for some reason it didn`t have the depth that the 205 did!
