I have done 137 to be exact in the 850, could have gone faster though. It was very stable carrying 3 people with the sunroof open.

115 in the Land Cruiser... I belive it electronically cuts off there.

114 in a Lexus ES 300, wouldnt go any more, it just lost all its pull at around 105-110.

    110 in an `89 F-150.. see above

97 in a friends Blazer, governer stops it there too.

Dad and I made a 150 mile trip through pouring rain into a 1.5 hour trip from hell (I just went to sleep) We did hydroplane a few times. Not too comforting at 90mph.

I should open a 10 mile strech of road where people can pay to take their car up to max speed in a safe environment... to get it out of their system

55 was due to fuel economy.

Up until recently speeding on a middleofnowhere highway in Montana was a $2 fine

125 MPH around Newark airport, going to N.Y. at 6AM in the dark

in a 308GTB Farreri. The road was disapparing so fast that I chickend out. Or smartened up. That was a long time ago.

I once heard that Montana did something like that years ago where you could give the trooper $5 and you could go at it. I could be wrong.

Yes, this was true up until 1996 when they threw out the speed limit altogether. The $5 ticket was actually a fuel conservation ticket. It wasn`t considered a speeding ticket so you never had to go to court, and it never went on your record. This was only on highway and interstate roads of course. However, if you were going above 110mph the officer could write you a more severe speeding ticket if he so desired.

If I remember correctly it was in 1996 that we lost our speed limit. I might be wrong by one year one way or the other. Anyway, now cops gave speeding tickets for "wreckless and imprudent driving`. There wasn`t a set law, this lead to alot of misunderstanding. It was explained to me by an officer that tickets were given based on age of driver and type of car along with current road conditions. Naturally high school kids got pulled over constantly for doing hardly anything at all. One time I was driving to Great Falls, a city about 90 miles from Helena, and got pulled over for doing 130mph. Now keep in mind that Montana is pretty barren. The Interstate from Helena to Great Falls is pretty well traveled and yet the most cars you will see on the roads going both ways is probably 50 cars total over this 90 mile stretch. So it isn`t a big deal to open it up a bit. Anyway, this officer walks up to my car (94 Cobra) and I hand him my drivers license and insurance. He immediatly notices the badges on the side of my car and says," Oh I`m sorry, I didn`t realize this was the Cobra." Then he waves me on my way. Obviously my age, 25 at the time, and the car played a part in how much "gray area" of the law I could get away with. Man I miss those days

I`ve never heard of this one. I`m not saying that I deny that its true. I have just never come across this before. In fact I wouldnt` doubt it one bit. You have to actually try to get pulled over on one of these "middleofnowhere highways".

Ohhhh man!! I guarantee some 25 year old schmuck will read this and try to go put cobra badges on his V6 stang so he can get away with stuff... only thing of it is, that whole policy is just wrong...

Yeah, I agree, the whole idea was misleading and usually unfair. It turned Highway Patrol Officers into tax collectors with guns. Now we do have a posted speed limit, and although I don`t get away with as much as I used to at least I always know where I stand. Besides, if I`m speeding I deserve a ticket, it shouldn`t matter how old I am. Thanks for your reply.

get away with stuff by putting cobra badges...

    I do the opposite...

took off my V6. so I can look like a anemic I4

    fastest I`ve gone... 143 racing a RX7 on the 45..

well it wasnt so much a race as it was a slaughter...

I got raped by at least 10 car lengths.

that was before my headers.. I think i have a leak

because ive lost low end. I gotta get that checked out..

Havent had the balls to go that fast since.. mostly cause my new tires are noy V-rated but H-rated.

I love my scanner and radar though.

oh yeah.. and as for the hyper-speeding

anyone see the gumball rally 3000or hear about it?

you can pick up the DVD at bestbuy for 9.99

    its really entertaining..

although it made me cringe how dirty some of those cars got.

like 30 ultra-exotic cars.. going from new york to LA really fast...

shows footage of them getting busted by cops and stuff

    and interviews with the drivers...

    Example:

So how many tickets did you get?

    No tickets, 2 jails.

"I got caught by the cop going 150.. its a good thing he didnt catch me when i was doing 190"

apparently alot of them were brits with International DLs so they couldnt have their licenses suspended. just heavy fines

and they were rich.. obviously to own the cars they did.
