Acura RSX Correction for a forum referral

A few months ago I was contacted by a member on another forum via a referral from David Fermani (Thanks David!) to perform some paint correction on his daily driver Acura RSX. At the time, the car was in need of some paint work where a previous repair had started to delaminate.

With the repairs completed a couple weeks ago, the car was brought to me last Wednesday for some clean-up and correction work. When it arrived the car was covered in a lot of overspray; nearly 3 hours of work with Meguiar`s aggressive clay was required in order to remove it. Once everything was fully decontaminated the car was polished with D300 on a MF cutting pad, with the repaired panel polished using M205 and a W8207 polishing pad. Protection was provided compliments of Opti-Seal. Here are some pictures:

    Before

S100 Total Cycle Cleaner aerosol was used to clean the exhaust tip and remove bugs from the front of the car:

Here you can see the automatic wash scratches and RIDS that covered most of the car:

    All gone:

    More swirls on the hood:

    Gone:

And finally, a few after shots:

There were several of the deeper RIDS which did not come out of some areas on the car, since this was only a one-step polish. The amount of defects that did come out however are a real testament to the power of the Meguiar`s DA Microfiber system.

    Thanks for looking!

I`ve tried out the system and been happy. The car looks great.
One day I`ll get to do my own car.

Thanks John. The MF system has become my go-to for one step enhancement details; the results have been consistently good on just about everything I have used it on.

Very nice Charlie!!! I am amazed that you can use D300 on a MF cutting pad and get it to finish down LSP ready. I just picked up the Megs MF kit and plan on using it on my RSX soon. (I was originally planning on waiting until next year to do a full correction but this has me really excited.)

What machine did you use? I am planning on using my PCxp with the MF system but I also just picked up a Flex 3401.

Thanks Troy! Yeah, to be honest I`ve been a bit surprised at how well D300 and the cutting pad can finish down as well; especially on finishes as soft as this Honda paint.

I used my G110v2 for this job; I haven`t had too much luck with the MF pads finishing down as well with the Flex DA.

    Looks great...
Just a thought for all you RSX owners. I have a 2005 Rsx of my own. I used a Deflesko paint gauge on my car not too long ago and found out that the factory paint is SUPER THIN!!! In some areas it was less than .9 mils.
I suggest using caution when considering your compounds, I will be using less agressive products like XMT360 to acheive a good shine and will not be pulling out the m105 to do any correction.
I will be appying Cquartz in the future to really protect the thin clearcoat.
Paint gauges are not cheap so i thought i would pass the knowledge on to those not fortunate enough to have used one.
Shine on you crazy detail hounds!!

Thanks guys... Erock, that`s an excellent suggestion about keeping an eye on paint thickness -- I`ve been finding more and more these days that factory paint just keeps getting thinner.

Love the car, not so much the color. But nice job on the detail. It looks great!

Thanks! I didn`t care for the color at first either, but once it was polished out the metallic really makes it pop.
