Joyriide Detailed: Jet Black E46 330ci

Nothing new or different. Car needed the exterior cleaned up. The owner drove from Sarasota to Miami to visit family or friends, so that explains the excessive bug residue.

The car was not heavily contaminated ( my girlfriend clayed the car in about 30 minutes.). I started the car off with a few passes of SIP on a white pad. It improved the finish of the hood, but still looked rashy. Tried it on a Purple Wool pad and it got a little better but the hood was still very rashy and pitted. Made a decision that the rock chips and road rash are not gonna get any better without a sander (of which I do not have, along with a PTG.). Plus, there has to be a point where Detailing and Bodywork need to have a split. With soo many different tools and products, we are a gallon of paint short of a bodyshop sometimes.

Whole car received SIP on a white pad @ 1400rpms (Dewalt Rotory), followed by 106ff on a grey pad @ 1400rpms. The reason for using the Dewalt is because my cable on the Makita was shorting so I`m still waiting on a replacement. I still had this Dewalkt form like 2 years ago and remember quite well why I DO NOT use it. A few verticles passes and my shoulders were killing me, this thing is heavy and not very ergonomic. The side handle makes verticle polishing very difficult and the high torque of the machine makes polishing for me difficult, especially when I`m used to the Makita.

I also got a chance to apply my tire dressing and engine dressing with a paint sprayer and compressor. I LIKE. I used about 1.5 ounces for the engine and 1 ounce for all four tires. Really stretched the product well and will continue to use it.

SIP via polishing pad @ 1400rpms
    106ff via finishing pad @ 1400rpms

    Nice pictoral, thanks!!

Since frequenting the forums I have slowly begun to appreciate the details in detailing. Nice looking car when first photographed but the cleanup was very well done. The reason I mention this is the ground up shot of the whole car with the detailed wheels really makes a difference in the look of the vehicle. The paint looks great but when the wheels become equal to the paint it gives it uniformity that makes a so-so detail into one of class. If you had not guessed by now I am impressed. Good job!!

    This was Fridays Detail.

I was an hour into the drive when I realized I left my wallet at home. Only had half a tank left and no way of buying gas on the way back from DF. By the time I got home, it was 9am, then I lost my phone, looked for it for like 30 minutes, until I realized I lost it, which is why when you call, the phone is off service.

Lets just say, it was a crazy day yesterday.

    joyriide113,

First off NICE JOB !!! Your work was worth the trip.

Isn`t it amazing how some tools just seem to fit like a glove. I have had every buffer known to man other than the Flex rotary, and the Makita to me is a nice tool, but just it doesn`t feel quite right. I started detailing with the rotary around ten years ago, and broke in with the Dewalt 849. Since then I tried everything from the super heavy Milwaukee 5040 to the light as a feather Metabo. I have always resorted back to the Dewalt 849, and although it is a bit on the heavy side it just feels right to me. Kind of like Robert Redfords baseball bat in The Natural. I think that detailers are very in tune with "the feel" of their buffer and anything different is a bit awkward or uncomfortable.

    Once again awesome job !!!

    BTW,

Left you something on the hot girls thread !!!

I use polishes and compounds to mechanically breakdown swirls and level down the paint enough to either smooth out completely or round out the edges (of the scratch) and make less noticeable.

Isn`t there a sticky or guide somewhere? This is all general information and detailing 101. Try searching.

    Thanks again for the comment.

Oh yes, I remember the lovebugs potent droppings while living in Sarasota for a few years. The before and after pics clearly show the time and effort you put in your work.

    Nice Work!
