Our 2001 GT gets a long overdue detailin`

Our 2001 Mustang GT has been, well, ok...I cringe to even say it around you people...but...neglected pretty bad over the past 6 years. Before this place came along, I thought washing it weekly and slappin` on some tire shine was enough, but you all have now made me a sick and twisted, detailing nut and I love you for it.

After PC`ing my black Mariner and seeing the results, I was itchin` to get into this car as it had much more wear & tear on it.

So, sit back and enjoy the pics and details as this was a fun one for me and I`m really excited with how it turned out.

First off, here`s a brief description...
    - washed with NXT
    - claybarred entire car
    - SSR2 over certain bad spots
    - SSR1 over entire car
    - PB EX over entire car
    - Stoners on the glass
    - NXT Insane Shine on the tires (wiped off for a satin look)

Here`s a quick video (if it works for you) in which you can hear the roughness on the paint as I run my hand over it. It may have looked shiny before, but boy was it NOT so smooth...

    http://www.satanclauz.com/mynot/rough_paint.MOV

Now I`ll let the pics tell the story...

and this step really came last, but I`m putting it here before the `FINAL` shots...

My Dad came over to check out the detailing job I did and he brought with him some Meg`s plastic stuff (not sure of the exact name) as he knew that my headlights were pretty crappy looking and were in need of some help. Well, we tried the Meg`s and it worked, but not perfectly, so we busted out some 800 and 1000 grit sandpaper...then wet-sanded them and then, using my PC, buffed with my SSR2 and SSR1 and we were pleasantly surprised with the results. Now, I`m sure there are products much better suited for this job, but this is what we had, so this is what we did...

Obviously, much better than what I started with...

And now for the big finale...the shiny, final results...

And a shot of what I finished her off with...

With that, I want to just say thanks to this great site for inspiring me to strive for perfection on my cars now...thanks also to my Dad for the help on the headlights and thanks to my wife for putting up with me spending all day saturday and most of sunday in the garage!!

nice job, i like the muted yellow color... wow you used 800-1000 grit sand paper thats super aggressive, then you used ssr 2 (i can`t believe you got it done with that) i would have thought a the 2.5 would have been better suited, but the car looks good regardless of the process........i detailed a 100k plus mile white work truck, never been detailed, i washed it then went to clay even with tons of lube the clay still got stuck to the paint (similar to your rough paint in the video).......i can really appreciate the hours you put into that car it sounded really bad, great job

Thanks Troy...heck yeah I`m going to enter this in the contest! My chances are pretty slim that I`ll win with all of the experienced detailers here, but it`d sure be nice to win that prize so I`d have more new products to try!!!

The way I see it...even if I don`t win, I`ve already won, cuz I feel so good now about myself and the way both of my cars have turned out...I`m just happy to be drivin` cars that look so much better!! So, I`m happy regardless!

The funny thing is, with all that I`ve learned over the past several months from this place, I now can`t believe that there are people out there that`ll slap a coat of wax over an `unproperly prepped` car.! And worse yet...I can`t believe that I used to be one of those people.

Actually, I had a very small `sample` of SSR2.5 and I did use a little of that along with the 2. The lenses still have a very subtle haze, over them, but considering what I started with, I`d say it`s a big improvement.

    Thanks for the comments!!

YNOT, As a "Ford Guy" I can say the car is beautiful. I also think it would make a very nice stable mate to a 70 Drag Pack Mach 1.

For the rest of you that`s an inside joke.

Very impresive indeed Tony Considering your limited use of the PC, I think you did an awesome job and should definitely enter it in the contest

You should also send me a couple shots to put up on my site too( poorboysworld@optonline.net)

I`ll do that...how good of quality pics do you want? I shot them pretty large.

Thanks again to everyone for the nice comments. I`m just so happy to have it so shiny right now.

I drove it to work today and I think I got better gas mileage now that it`s so slick!!

Yeah Troy...I guess I either had the flash on or off or something different. It`s definately the same car though. Problem is, I didn`t notice it until I was done and going through all of the pics I took.
