    Would You Do It Again?

Just curious as to how many that are out full time detailing on your own, or with your own company........would you make the leap again? Not what would you do different (although feel free to throw that in,) just would you do it again period? Yes or No.

Wow! Thanks Max080 for such a brave, head on question. I don`t have an answer but am very interested in answers. I am thinking of taking at leap
myself, at least a mini leap but afraid to leave my current industry even though it`s suffering so. Maybe people will be gun shy to answer this question because if they admit they wouldn`t leap again, they feel it might hurt their business even more. Personally, I think someone could admit they wouldn`t leap again but still be successful. So c`mon brave ones, let`s hear it!

Doing this as a full time job as a means to provide for my family, no I wouldnt ever do it again. In fact I went back to work last year for a dealership just to have the job security.
For some guys its a glamorous and high paying business, and for some who live in not-so-wealthy areas, its a struggle to stay afloat. Even with steady business, you have a whole lot more expenses than what you expect, and that`s what puts most small businesses under. Taxes are a big one. Rent/lease, insurance, travel costs if your mobile + vehicle upkeep, not to mention your equipment/supplies. Pay for all of that, then try to provide for your family. Its tough. I plan to keep doing weekend work even when I leave the dealership, but Ill never go all in again.

This all is very true. It doesn`t matter to me how what I work on. General details pay me an income. Collections pay the shop bills there is a discount on them like a fleet account.
In winter that stops. I supplement with restoration work.
One day I`ll get to do my own car.

How did you guess Bunky!! Everything was just wrong yesterday but today was a brand new happy work day !

I actually love my work sometimes and cant think of anything else I would rather do. Today was an awesome day in spite of the quart or so of tar splattered everywhere ,I just took my time and didnt let it get to me .

Re: Would You Do It Again?

I just started my part time detailing business 06/11 officially. I done plenty of research about starting a business. I filed my own LLC paper $125 for NJ, spend money on business cards, website, and invoices $400 est. Equipment and supplies $8,000 est. I won`t discuss on how much im making, but if im keep going at this rate, I`ll break even at 06/12 ( if the world is still on it feet LOL ). I currently working in the dealership and have no family to feed.

There sure are easier ways to make a buck!! But I still never seem to work a day in my life and the last time I sat at a desk for longer than 2 hours I ended up needing therapy.
