    Detailers nightmare

I was just driving home and was stopped at a light next to a new Dodge Nitro....at first it looked pretty cool, but then I noticed a few things that would have killed me when I was detailing... they have wheel flares with sharp curves and a groove about a half inch wide where it mounts to the body...there is no way either the flare or the groove could be done other than by hand...the door handles are black plastic with a round push button to open and I doubt other than a cotton swab could get around it to apply a dressing.
I know these are strange thoughts while sitting at a light but it looked as bad if not worse than the Ferrari`s and Street Rods I used to do with louvers.

What cars/trucks do you think are nightmares?

Our Envoy is evil...pure evil. I have never washed the lift gate of that thing without missing at least two spots.

the two things i don`t like about that Toyota is that all of them have white roofs and the back door can`t be opened without the front door open first

Steve I saw one here that was all black even the roof, it was the only one that I have liked...if they came out with painted plastic I think that would make it a better look SUV....I have to wonder why there is so much unpainted parts on cars these days $$$$$$$

It must have had a custom paint on top ...I think it`s a look with the plastic, less maintence? Honda tried it and is now painting the plastic on the Element and it looks sooo much better.

    Mercedes G500.

So much trim. You must charge double if you have to do one of these.

The one with the matching paint roof (black) is the TRD version FJ Cruiser. I belong to Toyota Club. They are very nice. It`s around $33K

    Re: Detailers nightmare

A VW "Thing" musta been the worst of the worst vehicles I`ve ever had to buff out. All the panels have raised edges, and that wonderful, thin, single stage factory orange paint (oh baby, noting oxidizes better than 70`s SS-paint!). Had to use 1/4" mask on all the edges then come back and do each and every friggen one them all by hand along with all the innie bends. Took over 10 hours to complete, but daam did it look sweet when it was done!!

forgot to mention... this was back before foam pads were the norm, 9" lambs wool, doubled up all the way baby!!

Dang I`m gettin to old for this

    Re: Detailers nightmare

After reading all of this, I`m thanking the heavens above that I have a detail friendly car. The hardest vehicle that I`ve had the "privelage" of doing so far was a badly etched `04 Mach1. I`m sure it would have been a lot easier if the paint was in decent condition though.

    Re: Detailers nightmare

Jeep Wranglers are a pain...few open panels (read: most of hood only), tons of trim, tops that must be masked

Get in the interior...it is equally clumsy and I`m not a fan of a lot of the materials used, either.

They`d be worse if they were bigger...like the newer 4 door Unlimited

Haven`t had the opportunity to work on one, but I`d think a Hummer H2 would be rough due to edges and plastic trim plus the height and size.

A Land Rover with the off road headlight guards, front grill guard, tailight guards, roof rack, etc. Most of these have never been off the pavement either! If I ever do another the price will increase drastically or they can go elsewhere.
