Shop Owners Only: Do You "Hand Wash"?

You own a professional detailing shop. You`ve got a building, bays, equipment, employees, insurance, all manner of overhead.

If a customer comes in and just wants a hand wash, for say, $20 - $25, would you take on the job? Or would you refer him to a shop down the street?

i would take it. it could be the start to a great business relationship. getting
them in the door can lead to upsales or referals.

Well I don`t fit exactly what you`re describing a "shop owner" to be, but I can say that if I were a perspective customer of a shop, I would probably be inclined to go there and have them do a hand wash only, and see the quality of their work on that.... BEFORE I let them do anything else with my vehicle. If the shop were unwilling to do a simple wash job, they`d be out of the running for my business.

    Just my $0.02....

I posted in the same thread you have going for mobile detailers.

I also run a shop out of a local dealership. I trade full details on their stock for bay space and signage. It takes no more then 30-45 minutes to clean the outside of a car/truck. thats quick cash to me.

Absolutely. I agree with maximv1. I own two stores and the washes are great to get through the winter months up north. They take no time, lead to referrals/upsales,creates a relationship and typically pay cash (which is always nice).

    Guys,

Thanks a bunch! I wasn`t sure whether "hand washes" were "beneath one`s station" for car detailers. I`m getting the same answers from remote owners in my other thread, that yes, definitely, take in all of the work you can get.

    As always, fellas,

I accept it if we have time at that moment to do it, or i try to book him/her in for another day. Usually that is not what the customer wants, they want it done there and then. In that case, unless we can squeese it in, without it affecting our other work, i do not take it.
