I had the pleasure of meeting Dave today and things went great. He is basically going to do the exact same job on my car for $1200 and the coating is going to be Opti-Coat or Guard(cant remember) But that is what he recommend as his favorite. Its going to be a 2 step polish and the whole works. 3day job. I`m not expecting a 100% perfection job as that is what can get expensive and the car isnt a full blown show car but Dave feel`s we can get a good 90% which is more than enough for me. He`s new to the area so i`ll be sure to recommend some of my friends with high end cars to him after my job is done. I`ll post up some before and after pictures and some pictures of my car in the SoCal Euro show sept 14th. Thanks again RaskyR1 for the ref.

Hey built240. I`m sorry you didn`t understand where we were coming from with our estimate. based on the fact that your car is being displayed at a car show and seeing the condition, we knew that a 2 step polish wasn`t going to be all it needed, plus we planned on spending quite a bit of time on the interior and engine and apply CQuartz FINEST. We are more than happy to work with you on the actual level of service and price and being that it is going to that car show and you know many other people with similarly nice vehicles, we already have planned to give extra effort. In our OptiCoat Pro is a great coating and we are Authorized Installers as well as Authorized Installers for CQuartz FINEST. Based on the conversation you had with Tim, it seemed as if CQuartz FINEST is what you really wanted. Again, I`m sorry for any confusion if you thought that your only option was as close to flawless as possible. We would love to take care of your beautiful M6! Let us know if you would like to discuss your options. - Wes

Thanks for letting me know about this thread Wes.

I`m glad Dave was able to book you for a job that you are more comfortable with, based on what we discussed on the phone and via email prior to meeting I concluded that you were looking to achieve a finish that was show car quality like the link I was sent. And we wanted to get your car to it`s optimal level in preparation for the show. Knowing this, I quoted $750-900 for a correction with Finest thinking that you had a F12/13 M6 (I got mixed up with another clients call). Upon meeting and viewing your car based on the standard you wanted to achieve that number was no longer relevant. Although the paint was in overall good condition i.e. No oxidation, fading etc. It was in dire need of massive correction work. A rough estimate was roughly 35 hours of corrective work to achieve close to 100% correction, including paint touch up on several areas, engine detail, interior detail, wheel coating, glass coating and Finest. Based on sheer size of this job I brought in Wes to lend a hand. Now between the two of us we estimated it would take 2 full days and around 40-45 hours of total work (20 each/10 hour days).

I normally charge $65 an hour at the shop for correction work, $65x40= $2600 not including $500 for the finest coating, glass coating, rim coating etc. So a $3100 quoted for $2000. On top of this we were offering a free wash kit & training a $100 value and a wipe down while your car was at your event. So to put things in perspective we are comparing apples to oranges here. We could have easily completed a two step correction on your car for around $1000 with Opti Coat and had your car in the shop for one day between the two of us, but based on what you told me that didn`t seem like what you were looking for so we went with the best of the best. It`s to bad because your car deserves Finest as Opti Coat just wont do it justice.

Anyways best of luck with your detail, and Chad I`m not quite sure why you contacted Dave when he was asking about Finest. It`s unfortunate you didn`t get in contact with Wes as he is also a authorized Finest installer as well.

Side by side I have found Finest to produce a better finish. I`m sure others may argue this but that it was I have found to be true.

I agree...Finest AND 22PLE offer better looks than opticoat. PLUS, the whole "permanent" is BS to me as nothing is permanent.

I would be in the $800-900 range for the same job, and just as Chad said, its two steps around the whole car..>D300 and sonax perfect finish would be a great combo for a solid 85-90% correction. Deeper scratches, and RIDS will remain (which they should anyway as there is no point in over-thinning the clear on a DD, track car, etc)

perfect would be an hourly rate at $75, but you would need to have a great understanding of car care maintenance for me to want to go to that length on your car. There is no point in getting it perfect when you have some hack car washers wiping the car down dry once a week.

PS, I travel from LA to San Diego weekly, but live in OC

Dave Saunders is the answer! What you are getting with Dave is a world class paint polisher. There is no substitute.

Can`t wait to see the end result and hear of the shear joy the client now has for his pride and joy.

How "permanent" do you need it to be? Can`t remember the last time I saw someone complain that their OC failed? Been on my car for 4 years and still beading like crazy. Like my paint (which is permanent), I`m willing to bet it`s going to stay there until I buff or sand it off.

The other morning I went outside and all the Opti-Coat had fell onto the ground off of my truck. You would think for $35.50 and four bean burritos it would have lasted for longer then it did.

Sorry guys but after reading the entire thread I thought this was too good to pass up. To the OP , I hope your ride comes out looking good and kicks *** at the show no matter which direction you take..

Thanks again. Wes and Tim were a great help I just felt more comfortable going to Dave. As far as 22ple,cquartz,opti-coat from quite a few people ive spoke to they all seem to be very similar just with a diff label on them but opti being more "near" permanent. Also im not just getting a 2stage polish, Dave said if need be there will be extra steps and the interior, wheels and engine will all be done as well. I think in my original post the guy who got his car done for only $660 was very rare. I was just surprised at the price I was quoted when I wanted the same job done as there is no way his car was in "that" much better condition that mine since his is only 2years newer and he messaged me saying his paint had a lot of swirl marks as well. But maybe I didnt clarify that I would have been perfectly satisfied with 85-90% v.s. 100%. My car reaches over 200mph and i`ve taken it pretty close several times. And it rarely see`s under 140mph whenever I take her out, so im not expecting to have a perfect condition show car

For sure! Ya, I was definitely not clear on your expectations and as much work as you have done to your car, I assumed you would be looking for the best possible outcome. I just knew we were in for a long couple of days and was protecting our time. I have only heard of Dave`s work and believe you are in good hands. I also am an OptiCoat Pro installer and know it to be a great coating. Def wins the durability game. I think CQuartz FINEST wins the gloss game, but we are talking about subtle differences. I will be down at the show and hope to see you and your car! Good luck!
