I`m receiving my new car (BMW 5 series) in about 3 weeks. I am collecting the car from the BMW Performance Center in Greenville and will be stopping by Atlanta for a few days, before returning to my normal home in Miami.

I`m looking for an Opticoat specialist and also a clear bra specialist in either Miami or Atlanta. Want someone who is really experienced - my understanding is that Opticoat requires some very good polishing to get a very good starting finish, and then someone who is experienced at Opticoat application to create a smooth slick finish.

Clear bra specialist doesn`t need to be the same person.

If you are lucky, David Fermani will still be in Miami when your car arrives. Contact him.

As far as being a specialist, David IS, but basically you want a swirl free finish before application.

However the Opti Coat is not slick. Not grabby, but it isn`t super slick either. One puts OC on to get the longest lasting protection .

    Good luck.

I live in South Florida all I can say is watch out there is a lot of hacks in South Florida I`ve used Opticoat before and it`s really not that difficult to use just has a learning curve like any other product . Before you hire someone PM me and let me know who it is and I will tell you if I`ve heard of them . I can tell you who to stay away from I believe Barry knows someone from the area you might want to PM him also .

Yes but which provides better protection? My understanding is both will mar over time so whether it lasts more than a year may be irrelevant if you need to do a correction after a year or 18 months even with careful washing.

In that case why coatings? Just go with some beautiful looking LSP. Have the car polished every 6 months. Is it a dark color?

Yes it`s a dark color. Imperial Blue Xirallic. Not as bad as Jet Black, but not an abusable paint like silver.

I don`t like sacrificing clearcoat 3 times a year as I did on the Lexus. So this time I figured I would harden the finish with a coating, and then hopefully only need to correct the coating once a year max and preserve the clearcoat.

Thanks I emailed Fermani. Garry dean is in Tampa.

Anyone else? I`d be thrilled to get David Fermani to do this, but as one of the celebrity detailers, he may be out of my price range.

If you get the car away from the stealership before they would touch it, there should be minimal amount of correcting, if any. After that, if you take care of it, polishing it 2 times per year will not sacrifice the clear. At all. But I know what you mean.

Just remember with coatings yo don`t get the "WOW" factor in the look department.

You just bought a brand new 5 series!!

Read your original post. """Want someone who is really experienced"""

If you want quality work, but you don`t want to pay for it I`d suggest that you pick up your car untouched by the dealer and apply Opti Coat yourself. It is not that hard. That way you will save a lot of $$$$.

No car dealer will be touching my car. I am picking it up at the BMW Performance Center at their factory in South Carolina, and then driving it down to Miami. So the car will be prepped by BMW themselves and no one else.

I won`t apply the coating myself. I used to hand wax my car myself and found I swirled up the black Lexus quite badly. Since then I prefer to hire a pro. I have a great relationship with a couple of excellent detailers in Miami, but they don`t seem to have any experience with opticoat (and I`m concerned their application won`t be smooth).

I maybe off here, but what does that entail? BMW prepping it? Can you have them leave it alone? Make sure to blue tape the whole car to prevent unnecessary issues during the trip
