    New shop, ideas?

I just built a 2500 square foot facilitie. I`m still in 2 31x24 buildings right now, waiting on my parking lot and to see what ideas you all have about how you would organize, run, or arrange a fresh shop before I get in.

If your somewhere cold in the winter. Inside drainage installed in the floors, Heat, AC and a humidifier if possible dehumidifier. Nothing like at your finger tips climate control. That way your ensuring all your products perform the same day after day. Fighting with compounds and polishes can be a PITA.
I`m jealous too. Being a part timer I`m still outside 60% of the time.

I`m guessing your moving your current lighting to the new place. I gave up on halogens a year ago for LED. Minimal heat if any compared to halogens. IMO they don`t give the best "color" representation of the paint your working on but they do a better job when it comes to defects and surface gloss and reflections. They seem to be a little bland and stagnant IMO. You can always get a sun gun for true outside lighting.

How about a lift? I`ve always said if I ever get my own garage I`d love to have a lift. Even a small scissor lift would make correction much easier on lower panels.

Not saying I would ever want them on my house.. But would solar panels be worth it on the roof?

If you want solar panels the up front cost may kill you and the amount you would want but long term it would sure be nice. Nice looking building!

I`d love to put solar panels on my house but you`re looking at like $10k minimum. If you`re in it for the long haul then yeah I`d go for it.

If you got a compressor I`d run a hard pipe for it around the perimiter of the building adding quick connects every 10ft or so. That way you always have air to hook into nearby and don`t have to run a hose across the shop to get the air

X 3 on this. The shop I learned the basics in had a lift, and it made it SOOOO easy to buff the sides, lower half & rocker panels (especially with a 16lbs GEM orbital). If it was possible, I would tear down my existing garage and rebuild it WITH a lift.

You also might want to think about overhead extension cord rollers. The kind that you can pull the electrical cord from and then give it a second tug to have it retract back into the roller. This will keep your cords off the floor and away from the cars.

+1 on the extension cord roller. I have 2 in my garage and they`re a godsend. The lift I don`t know. Before the floor was poured yes, put a shop style lift but now that it`s a pad it`ll be a 2 post which will get in the way or a drive-on which is much more $ and still has to be worked over top of somewhat. .
