New Addition to the Mike Garage Mahal

Around the first of the year, I was to the point of organizing my remodeled garage (My Garage Mahal) and I started talking with grungy about coming up with something to hold my polishers. Bounced designs off of him for the next few weeks and came up with something that I thought would work but was probably never going to get around to actually making. (I am often quoted at work as stating, "The universe is flawed: it does not follow my thought experiments as closely as it should. ) But grungy, being the enabler he is, dropped off some scrap plywood and the tools I was lacking to complete this mini-project. Started making sawdust Wed after work.

The design tenets were 1) function (hold my DA polishers), 2) ease of fabrication (remedial would be greatly overstating my woodworking skills) and 3) use only stuff I already had laying about. The only purchase was a set of roundover bits. Looks were barely a concern. Note - I have no wall space to hang them so chose a bench top motif.

Yes, the craftsmanship is that of a blind 3-year old (although that is probably unkind to blind 3 year-olds) but 1) the goals were met, 2) it isn`t god-awful ugly and 3) most importantly, I still have all of my fingers.

I did subsequently buy a hole saw set so, should I ever decide to make a "pretty" one, I could do a (slightly) better job.

Nice job on the fabrication. I need to do something but I have organized my self to the point where I have 10 pounds of stuff in a 5 pound bag so to speak and if I don`t stay hyper organized it`s a huge mess. If I can find the wall space I would build that exact item.

Any idea if there is an issue hanging the polishers over time?

These are all DA units and all (of these, anyway) have a metal shroud to protect the counterbalance assembly. These are hanging from that.

I chose NOT to hang my Metabo rotary because it only has the shaft and would be concerned with side loading the bearing like that long term. Reasonably sure it could handle it but I was a Reliability Engineer for 25 years....

Looks good! I think you need something at the bottom to hang the cords from though.

    Thanks.

Were I to do the wall mount version, I would have used a 2x4 spacer. Hooks would be there for that. Being desktop, the plan is to coil the cords between the front legs (resting on the workbench).

Ah, didn`t even notice it was for the workbench. Makes more sense now. New Addition to the Mike Garage Mahal

The Nano comes in a nice carrier and have a drawer all picked out for that. No plans for Duetto or Mini. Were I to "accidentally" acquire one, pretty sure the PCxp or a GG6 would find its way into a drawer next to the rotaries.

Thanks. Thought about painting/staining but am concerned about transfers onto the polishers. (Yes, I have problems. ) Leaning toward vinyl contact paper but haven`t completely decided.
