I, and a friend of mine, are thinking about opening a detailing/performance shop.

I`m wondering how much it costs to start the business running.

Of course property values differ from place to place, but can I get a few examples?

Also, what kind of equipment would I need to start?

Would suggest you read DaviB article on BetterCarCare, plus I’m sure some forum contributors who earn their living at detailing will give you good advice

this is a very indepth queston. First, are you looking at mobile or fixed location. There is a huge price difference between the two. Second where are you looking at opening. Have you written a business plan?.... I have a hundred questions before i can give you an answer. If you would like, you can give me a call at (585) 414-3625, and i will be happy to talk to you about what it is that you are looking to do. Oh my name is Mike, i should be the one who answers, if not just ask for me.

You might want to consider going to www.topoftheline.com and checking out their kits that will give you a lot of the things you will need to get started (including instructional videos).

I`m really just interested in the idea of opening my own business. I would have to wait until I finish college first. (3 more years).

I was thinking that I could have a full-time job in my field of study, and own or co-own a detailing business on the side. There I would work a couple days a week for a while, maybe weekends. I would hire a couple others to work for me while I`m at my other job during the week.

I like the idea of having a full-time career along with the detailing biz, cuz I live in WI, and the detailing would be pretty slow in the cold months. (October-March)

Good Luck. This is a "hands on" business and if you aren`t there - prepare for problems. I know because I have been doing it for 11 years and have never found someone I could trust to do the job the way I want to my expectations without me being here to keep them on their toes.
