Yesterday afternoon, I got a call from a neighbor who I did detail for earlier this year.

She was washing her car (a new dark gray metallic 2009 Totota Yaris 4 door sedan with less than 100 miles on the odometer) when she noticed that someone had hit her car.

She stated that it appeared like someone had misjudged pulling out of or into a parking space while her car was parked. and hit the rear bumper.

I took a short ride over and looked at the car.

There was a deep scratch on the rear bumper cover, along with a long scuff and some paint transfer.

I told her to come by the house, and I would see what I could do.

Using Meguiar`s #83, my PC and a 3M white foam compounding pad, I was able to remove the scuffs and paint transfer and lessened the appearance of the deep scratch, which would require touch up paint to completely hide.

I followed up with Meguiar`s #9 V2.0 on a polishing pad and then hand waxed the area using Meguiar`s #26. I worked about half an hour in total on the rear bumper cover.

She then asked me what she owed me.

I told her that she could buy a new, unwrapped toy or two and bring it to the firehouse for the "Toys for Tots" program run by the Marine Corps Reserve and that I would consider the deal done.

I`ve had a good year between the firehouse, the fire academy, the ambulance service and detailing... paying it forward to brighten the Christmas morning of a child is the right thing to do.
