I saw this post on Craigslist, and I could only speculate that this is a high school student looking for a quick way to make a few bucks. I am tempted to see what this "detail" entails.

Hopefully it`s not an English student.

You should go check it out and record the procedure in detail, bring him a beater and tell him to have at it.

    Sounds like an Windex/Pledge detail.

I don`t think that is a picture of a car he detailed either. That kind of looks like a Euro A3. I don`t think we get the 2 door A3`s over here, all we get is the 4 door, not to mention the Euro plate on it.

He`ll learn the hard way. I did. When I first started mobile detailing over 10 years ago, I bought a new truck, and a quite few thousand dollars of professional equipment and set my pricing low to drum up business. It took quite a few trashed SUV`s and Mini Vans before I realized that I was not charging nearly enough !!! I started out attracting customers who were bottom feeding for the cheapest guy on the block. And like a fool, I was one of those guys. BUT $40 !!! THATS INSANE !!!

Back in 1994, at least I started my details at $60. :nervous2:

Quickly went to $75, then $90 and kept going. Cheap is definitely not the way to start out.

Craigslist is always fun to read. In my area all people do is badmouth one another.

I don`t know what it is about craigslist, but I always get a bad feeling in my stomach reading them.

I had a customer call the other day to make an appointment and granted I live an hour from where my main body of business is for grad school so I told them it would be about 8 days because of class load and my bartending schedule. Anyway, I get a call yesterday that some guy told him it would cost him $75 to do the same thing I was gonna do for $225. I just laughed and told him to enjoy the work and I`m sure I would be hearing from him again.

Not necessarily the right approach. You might find it works better if you tell them why it should be you. Ignore the other guy. Badmouthing him won`t help.

Recently I have really been practicing my detailing skills. Let me try them out on your car. Includes washing, vacuuming and I will bring my own cleaning supplies and Armor All! You will be surprised at what a great difference I can make.

Hey, if Heidi is cute and shows up in a bikini, it might be worth it.
