no name professional detailers

Maybe a few of you professional detailers could please take a moment to explain something to the rest of us. Why do some members who post in the Professional Detailers Forum choose not reveal their name? Anyone have any thoughts?

Well, one potential reason is that they are still in the process of learning and would not like one of their [potential] clients observing their inexperience?

Without a specific example, though, I have little to go by.

Why do some members who post in the Professional Detailers Forum choose not reveal their real name? You know, like when people talk to each other in a real life face to face conversation.

I can be an idiot, im still learning... my names Daniel Joshua Wendell also lol. My company name is going to be "High end detailing by daniel". Good we got that cleared up lol.

And i have never experienced that.

That`s what I was thinking.

Noting that I`m a non-pro who sometimes tosses in his $0.02 on the Pro forum...I think it`s a very personal and potentially serious decision to post IRL info over the internet; bad guys surf the `net too. Just becausesomebody is in the detailing business that doesn`t mean they can/should adapt security standards that might be OK for other people.

How secure does it make you feel about gathering information from no name professional detailers? Not sure I understand the reasoning here. It is okay for us to give people rock solid information based on years of experience, while these same people would rather not use their real name because they are worried about internet security? Makes you wonder what it would be like on this Professional Detailers Forum if no one used their real name because we were all worried about internet security?

I don`t follow you here :think: Every now and then you and I just don`t seem to communicate, and if this is one of those times we can just say "oh well, no hard feelings".

I`ve never considered knowing a person`s real name to be essential to lending credence to what they post, here or on other internet forums dealing infinitely more serious matters; on some of those forums the posters would *never* divulge their IRL identities over the internet and that`s both assumed and expected. Having met some of those people IRL, I`ve found my internet-acquaintance-based perception of them to be sufficiently accurate for the proper evaluation of what they post.

Gotta be *very* careful about believing anything you read online anyhow, and knowing a person`s (supposed) real identity is a tiny factor IMO. Being able to sift through info and separate the wheat from the chaff is a skill, and one that`s required when dealing with the internet if one is to avoid being a cyber-chump.

Okay, a guy walks in a bar, sits down and strikes up a conversation with another guy about starting a detailing business. He asks specific questions about business licenses, insurance etc. A few minutes later, a few more people walk over, sit down and join in. Now maybe I am missing something here; but would you expect all of these people to take each other seriously and at the same time not wonder why they have chosen to remain nameless? Maybe this is one of the reasons why some people do not seem to communicate? Or maybe it is just bar room talk. After all, they have no clue to the name of the person they are speaking with, why does it really matter to any of them what the other person has to say?

The whole scene appears a bit strange, especially when you consider this is a professional detailers forum. Makes you wonder what these nameless detailing business professionals do when they are dealing with real live clients either online, on the phone or in person. It is all a rather suspicious way of an attempt to communicate.

This is an interesting topic Frank. In my opinion the Internet allows some people be `somebody else` while remaining fairly anonymous. This could be to advance a personal agenda and remain nameless, to all buy very smart computer people. It does occur on this forum, but thankfully not too much. It is a tough call to say someone is not being professional by not using their `real name` in the professional forum. I do get what you are saying though.

Well, maybe my REAL name is not used, I do use the REAL name of my business, and I am the business.

So, if consumers skim this site for my Shop/Name, I hope they`ll get/read an accurate description of who I am.

In this context, I`d much prefer to promote the business.

For regulars here, I hope you know me as just (real name) "Jimmy". Because that is who I am.

I`m Jim, and I buff it. :nixweiss
