I spoke with another detailer recently about customers. He tells me that when he is around town, and sees a high-end vehicle in a parking lot, he will leave a business card on the windshield. Has anyone else ever done this? This sounds like a great way to "pick" your individual clients, but I am not so sure that vehicle owners would appreciate finding anything left on their car... any thoughts ?

I think there was a thread about this and the majority of people said its not a good thing to do. I hate when people put things on my car.

yea... i saw a lambo countach last friday and had a card in my hand and was going back and forth to the wiper and the sidewalk contemplating it. And finally the owner walked up and its just so happened it was one of my dads best friends that had just picked up there new car lol. He asked me about my card and it had the gallardo that i washed a while back and we started talking but i dont think he wouldve liked it if i put my card on his car.

I hate when people put stuff on my car. I don`t even give the card a time of day just because I feel violated lol

I`ve done it and received a few phone calls, but those people are still wanting a 150 complete detail...

just because the car looks nice doesn`t mean they have money to spend on keeping it that way. Some are looking at the social status of having the car, even though they are living paycheck to paycheck...but driving a brand new denali, lambo, maserati...

Ive done this and had a customer call, a bit peaved and I told them I would clean their wheels for free because of the inconvience...........they loved the quick work I did and asked me to the the car at my price, they are floored at the quality/price.

No harm in trying.......I always make a quick note about what I see could be improved on the car......on the business card.

I find it best to give them the 1 min sell in person and pass on the business card, no hard sell, they will return at some point.

You would be much smarter to only give your business cards directly to the owners of those types of vehicles, rather than just leaving it on the car when no one is around. That kind of personal touch always works out better than being invisible.

MotorCity - you are yet to get a call form an irate person, but are you getting calls from new customers? Seems most people would respond like the above. Im not saying not to do it, I just want to know how effective it is or isnt.

I have to admit that I get pissed when I see stuff on my car. But a business card I wouldn`t get too upset, as long as its vehicle related. I`m tempted to do the same for my business. Currently, I put cards on fellow Toyota owners refering them to ToyotaNation. I`m only a moderator, but I`m trying to get our membership (which is free!) up.

Here in New York it`s illegal to leave flyers/ads/bus. cards behind on windshields. Both the person doing the distribution and the business itself can be fined.

I get mad when people leave stuff under my windshield wipers--they always seem to leave a handprint or smudge...Also, I wouldn`t see it until getting in my car, noticing it, getting out, removing it, getting in...well you get the picture.

I don`t mind if enterprising individuals left a business card slightly stuck in between the driver side window and panel. Taking care leaving a biz card gives me the impression they understand our OCD personalities and probably would do a great job on the car.
