Stainless Steel

Was wondering if anyone new of a safe product to use on stainless steel. Have a customer that had his new 2door conv. Rolls delivered over the weekend. This is only the second one delivered to the States. The center of the hood is stainless steel and some of the trim around the windshield. He also owns the Back to the Future DeLorean. I am waiting to hear back from Rolls Royce but thought I would ask on here first. Cleaned the car today and was able to just wipe off the little bit of dirt from him driving it the past couple of days. Any help would be much appreciated.



This car is freaken amazing. He has the extended wheel base Phantom also, but this conv. is a tank. Just moving it back and forth from the wah bay was scary.

I always thought that one of the funniest things to do with a DeLorean would be to polish the heck out of it to blind other drivers on the road.

Todd- I will get picks in sometime next week. The leather interior is very close to white. Already today I had to get some stains off of the leather. I was suprise to see so many swirls when the car was taken off of the transporter. Also the finish has so much flake in it that some areas seem rough. But if anyone has any ideas about the steel hood I would still appreciate some help. Thanks.

They make an aerosol stainless steel cleaner & polish recommended to be used on Deloreans. I`ve used it a couple of times and it works great.

Don`t know for sure, but I`d sure be careful with the aerosol spray on the painted surfaces.



Most restaurant supply houses will have a S/S cleaner/protectant for a whole lot less $$$.

Are you sure it is not clear coated? :nixweiss

I have used the Sprayway stainless steel cleaner in the past.



Although I haven`t had to use it on something like a Rolls, I have had good success with it in all the car hauler trailers that I have had to clean for clients.



My advice would be to obviously not spray it directly on the car, although I am sure that advice is hardly necessary.



As for the DeLorean, if you have spots that fight you with the stainless steel cleaner you can always use light scotchbrite pads if the steel doesn`t have any type of clearcoat on it. Just treat it like clay and use some lube over the surface to make sure you don`t scratch it excessively. Also if you are using it, make sure to use it with the grain of the stainless steel so you don`t add any non-directional marks on the surface.

This may be a stupid question but why not just use a metal polish?

I have had several older Porsche Targas in the shop and have used 3M Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish with great results.

I`ve used this exact product & I think the Delorean store is just private labeling it. It`s really easy to work with. You spray it on the panel and wipe it off. It`s almost like cleaning a stainless refridgerator. I don`t think the Deloreans are clearcoated. If they were, you would be able to use regular detail polishes, which I`m certain you can`t. Something like a Scotchbrite pad will most likely scratch the finish, so I wouldn`t recommend trying it.
