Backing Plates?

If you had your preference, witch 6 inch backing plate would you prefer for a Rotary as follows, no rocket science here, just want to hear!

1. Lake Country 6", no center alignment button!

2. Lake country 6" with center alignment button!

Just post your preference and reason.

You HAVE to get one with a center alignment hole. DON`T EVEN THINK OTHERWISE!! Centering a pad is one the most important things when buffing. Trust me on this one.

Agreed! I keep my Makita centering tool in my pocket while detailing because I use it when switching every pad.

Are you switching pads that often? Have you ever used a touch up bottle as a centering tool? Works perfect unless it explodes in your pocket? I know from experience.....

David i don`t have a centering tool yet, You told me about using a touch up bottle but I don`t have one of those either.

There must be a piece of copper tubing or something I have laying around that would work!

What are the dimensions of a centering tool ?

David, are you sure that is what exploded in your pocket!! I told you about watching those flicks of Jessica Simpson, Dude, you are going to go blind, LOL!

HaHa! Anything round that fits snug into the hole of the backing plate will work. A tube of touch up paint only costs about $2-$3.

What is the Makita centering tool and how do you use the bottle to center pads??

I usually eyeball it, unless they`re the 7.5" pads which fit perfectly...

Some 6.5" pads I have from properautocare.com, the backing is off-center, so it`s worthless to try and center the pad...

I`m curious about the above techniques though...

Confused, if the backing from proper auto care is off center why didn`t you just send them back for an exchange.

There pads are made by Lake Country, fully guaranteed.

You need a backing plate with a hole for centering and your pads have to have a hole for centering. You put the tube that comes with the polisher or touchup paint bottle into the hole of the plate and slide the pad over the tube and pull the tube out. Instantly centered.

I think he meant the backing of the pad was off center. If so, I would send them back and get new ones.

Yes it was 1-2 pads I think and Danase thanks for the pic... haha I`m an idiot, I was thinking of the 6.5" pads since the 6" backing plate was mentioned in the first post...

Oh and I got sick of returning pads to CMA due to adhesive issues and now the off-center backing velcro... I`m just going to order elsewhere from now on

The CCS pads dont have holes in them...

which 6.5" pads have holes in them for centering? Sorry Im new to a rotary, going to order one tonight probably, just want to make sure I order the right pads as well since I probably cant use the PC ones I have already cuz there`s no hole in them.
