I`m in college right now and I`m thinking about doing detailing on the side. Do you think it would be a good idea to take pictures of vehicles I have done and put them in a portfolio for customers to look at? I mean....anyone can wash a car but I think attention to detail is what makes a car really stand out. No one around here really has a detail shop. There are a few places that call themselves that but I have never heard of them using a buffer or pc to fix scratches or swirls. Of course the problem will be finding people that are willing to pay for swirl removal and things like that. Most people will only be wanting a wash and wax just because everyone is cheap around here. I am sure that there will be some that will be willing to spend the money though. What do you guys usually charge for a basic wash/wax/vac for car? van? suv?

Basic wash & wax for me is $70. Add $10 or $20 for larger vehicles.

And yes, a portfolio is a great idea!

a portfolio is a great idea...maybe even a few references added too. people most likely won`t call the references, but it is another comfort item for them to see.

also, you`d be surprised what will come your way once word of mouth gets around. the people that love their cars will find YOU once you are known!
