Re: SiO2 Ceramic Spray Sealant test on Acura TSX

Some more bead shots of the 4 best after a lot of rain today, taken at the end of the day. I tried to take these from the same close distance and angles for each picture. The distance is around 2 inches max from the closest point to the paint.

    But first, the full hood:

    Don’t mind the ant.

    And trunk:

    Jet:

    Cosmic:

    Overcoat:

    Drexler on trunk:

SiO2 Ceramic Spray Sealant test on Acura TSX

    Update 9/12/20 (3 weeks)
These pics were taken in the morning after a rain consistent rain period:

    Hood:

    Jet

    Lustre:

    Cosmic:

    Overcoat

Jet probably has the smallest beads. Standing up to Cosmic and Overcoat nicely so far.

Lustre doesn’t really belong in a beat beading/sheeting (water behavior) showdown.

And then the roof with these on DP Coating, order reversed since pic is from the back (left to right is Overcoat, Cosmic, Lustre, Jet):

None, nothing special to share here.

    Back Trunk:

    IGL:

    Drexler:

    DPC:

    Griots:

Griots has the smallest beads and I’ll give it the lead here. IGL and Drexler close behind. All 3 of these sheet at similar speed right now.

DPC Armor doesn’t belong in the best water behavior contest.

SiO2 Ceramic Spray Sealant test on Acura TSX

    Update 10/10/20 (7 weeks)
These pics were taken today before a wash. General update to show longevity comparisons. I didn’t take individual beading beauty shots, just pics of hose-induced sheeting, every few seconds after the hose is turned off.

    Hood:

For the hood I then did the same pics after a wash with Reset... similar results but everything sheeted faster (hood was probably dirtiest part of the car):

    Sheeting Ranks:
    T-1) Overcoat
    T-1) Cosmic
    3) Jet
    4) Lustre (dead)

Jet kept up with Overcoat and Cosmic for the first 6 weeks I’d guess, but here it looks to be slowing down a step. It would still look impressive on it’s own. I like it, no shame in losing a step on OC and Cosmic.

Lustre is done, or at least 80% done if I’m guessing theoretically.

And then the roof with these on DP Coating, order reversed since pic is from the back (left to right is Overcoat, Cosmic, Lustre, Jet):

    Sheeting Ranks (on DP Coating)
    1) Overcoat
    2) Jet
    3) Cosmic
    4) Lustre

Everything on the roof sheets faster than on the bare paint on the hood. Makes sense since toppers seem to perform a bit better on coatings (even given DP Coating seems pretty unsubstantial).

Jet looks nearly as good as Overcoat here (except Overcoat literally sheds water the moment the hose goes off. I put Cosmic slightly behind but it may be at a disadvantage due to location closer to middle of the roof.

Lustre does not look dead on the roof, so it’s either bonding to the coating better than paint, or it is dying and the coating underneath is taking over.

    Back Trunk:

    Sheeting Ranks
    T-1) IGL, Drexler, Griots
    4) Armor

Water just flies off the trunk, it must not have been very dirty.

I have the three tied, water can’t hang on. DPC Armor isn’t completely dead but I’m guessing 60-70% done. And wasn’t the best water behavior to begin with.

I apologize, the first picture of the roof in post #18 as well as a few other update posts was meant to be the reference photo.

You nailed it with this thread I saw it when you posted it but never read through it or somehow missed your updates.

I think you had good head to heads for the products you chose. Drexel looked good too...a nice little surprise. If your searching for the next bead monster spray topper ....SiRamik SC-Mist is top level beading from what I have seen in forensic detail videos. I have not used it personally

Sometimes when I use Meguiar HCW I could swear the beading is almost as good as some of these products then other times it’s average.

    AcuRAS82 any update on this?

@William_Wallace - SC Mist is a pretty formidable and good all round product to be honest. It`s party trick is it`s chemical resistance and it`s actually pretty slick for the substantial product it is. As for beading, a step behind Cosmic having had them all on a test panel, gloss not quite as blingy.

Re: SiO2 Ceramic Spray Sealant test on Acura TSX

    Update 11/5/2020 (2.5 months):

    Hood:
Washed with Reset, flat spray setting hose test, pics taken a few seconds apart, with final pic at around 10 seconds:

    Once again:

Water shedding & overall behavior ranks (my opinion):
    1a) Overcoat
1b) Cosmic (barely behind Overcoat, if not equal)
    3) Jet (way behind and probably 80-85% dead)
    4) Lustre (long gone)

I’m at the point of needing to decide if I end the hood portion of the test. It’s down to Cosmic vs Overcoat which may go on for weeks/months; and I suppose there is some insight to gain in seeing how long Jet hangs on. But I don’t want the hood unprotected once winter salt starts. Right now the boundary lines between product areas, the left and right sides of the hood, and the Lustre area are unprotected.

    So I’m either going to
    - put Cancoat on these unprotected areas,
    Or
    - same as above plus where Jet occupies
    Or
    - put Cancoat on the entire hood and call this done

Any opinions while I decide are welcome.

    Cool Observation:
There is a line that can be seen after rinsing which shows where dead Lustre on bare paint meets dead Lustre that was on Essence. I thought this was neat to show that although Essence isn’t hydrophobic, water repels better off of the Essence area than the bare paint.
Left side of the picture is dead Lustre on bare paint (middle hood). Right side is seemingly dead Lustre that was on Essence (front hood):

SiO2 Ceramic Spray Sealant test on Acura TSX

    Update #2 11/5/2020 (2.5 months):

    Trunk:
Washed with Reset, hose test on flat spray setting, pics taken a few seconds apart, final pic around 10 seconds:

    Reference

    Once again:

All three besides DPC looking great! I’ve sprayed from all different angles and at any given angle, each product wins equal amounts. I’m going 3-way tie here again:

    T-1) IGL, Drexler, Griots 3-1
    4) DPC (hanging by a thread)

I will let this trunk testing continue on into winter until there’s a clear winner. But might be covering up the DPC with Cancoat, which obviously won’t be part of the competition.

    Roof:
I’m done reporting on the roof. It’s too hard to judge toppers on a mediocre coating, and not worth taking roof pictures which is annoying. Test over, no clear observations.

Are there any spray products that can hold a candle to PA CS or KK Overcoat? IGL premier looks like it`s holding up ok, albeit on a less exposed part of the car?

Not including true coating lites like Cancoat... my guess is Feynlab CSC (which beat out IGL on my X5 roof), and maybe WG CSC which did well in the same test but on a separate area of the car.

However I would argue that Feynlab beading isn’t as impressive as Cosmic, Overcoat or IGL, from my very limited experience with it. But I’m not knocking it, it’s awesome bang for the buck and applies very easy.

And not sure if this is cheating, but PA Viking might be comparable to Cosmic, although I’ve never put them head to head and have used Cosmic more often.

Re: SiO2 Ceramic Spray Sealant test on Acura TSX

    Update 11/11 (2.75 months):

I decided and implemented the following:

Feynlab Pure Rinseless then Kleen Strip Prep-All then Gyeon Cancoat to the following previous testing areas:

    - Passenger side of hood where Nova products once occupied
    - Whole roof
    - Previous DPC Armor area of trunk

So my new hood test areas looks like this, testing areas exclude Cancoat:

Roof is gone from the test.

Trunk looks like this, testing area excludes Cancoat:

So the test will live on for the time being. Beading pics taken from this morning and all remaining products doing very well.

I agree that Feynlab is easy to use, but the beading isn`t very good.

Can see a vast difference from cancoat side of hood to others. How long have the Kami and PA been on?
