Alloy Wheel Repair

To the people who offer alloy wheel repair- is it a profitable service to offer? I noticed there aren`t many people out there doing it, but I could see a good demand. I`ve owned many cars with road rash on the alloys, and I see how much they devalue a car. But will a customer see that, and want to pay for it?

If its a good service to offer, where`s the best place to get training? Is it hard to learn, or is it something I can buy a video for and teach myself to do?

I am new in this forum too but i have to tell you that it would be good if you offer a service like that because people with Mercs,bimmers and audis just want the rims to look good. A good example was my own cousin, her TTS"s rims were curbed and she wanted to buy a whole new set of um . BUt then i stopped her. So ya it should be good, there are lots of vidoes on youtube about it, if i need to repair any i would be good at it because i learned it from those videos.

i know a local guy that runs a franchise business, alloy wheel repair specialists. they teach u how to repair wheels and set u up with a mobile work truck. hes pretty damn good i send all my referrals there. wish he could work more with aftermarket wheels. no where can replicate diamond cut polished rims in the whole state.

Having a detail shop actually perform wheel repair correctly takes specialty skill, materials, equipment & space. Unless you`re planning on spot painting wheels (which is the hack way of doing things), I say focus on detailing instead of being the Jack of all trades.

I offer wheel repair, but I don`t really promote it. Like David mentioned, to do it the correct way, you really need a dedicated space for it. You can definitely make $$ doing it, but I think there are better add-on services with better profits such as dent removal and PPF (clear-bra`s).

I think that a good auto repair shop would have been the good solution on that problem of yours to repair your alloy wheel. If you would be able to really look even further in that one, then things would have been very much good for the long run and it would definitely help you out there.

I work for a dealer that outsources this service. A guy in a truck comes and does all the cars on the lot that need it once a week. For the most part they look good but I don`t think the quality is acceptable. Unless you repaint the entire wheel, it seems to me that it is too hard to blend paint well on wheels. Even when they are silver.

Keep in mind that most OEM wheels are powdercoated. All mobile gusy as well as many wheel repair companies don`t powdercoat therefore you`re left with an inferior repair. Here`s a national chain that does it correctly: Wheels America Wheel Repair

Have you used the place in Miami? I need to repaint my Mercedes wheels and was planning to do it myself, but if this guy isn`t to expensive and is good then I may use him.

I use Wheels America almost every day. I have sources tell me that Turbax(who is also in Miami) actually sublets many of their wheels to WA. I pay $109 per wheel + $15 dimount/mount/balance. And they powdercoat their wheels too.

Thanks for the info. I may give them a call and have them do the work. The price isn`t to bad. Do you deliver the wheels yourself or do you have someone do it for you? I will probably have the tires dismounted and deliver them over there. I have to put a new set of tires on the car.

I have never heard of Turbax.

They will pick up and deliver them back to you within 24hrs. Included in their $109 per wheel price. They can also dismount the tires too. I wouldn`t worry about Turbax. Stick with WA.

I have a guy who paints the entire wheel for $75.00 That includes a dismount sand, bondo, repair, primer,base and clear. He does an excellant job on them as well. Its not powder coated but they look great!
