soap frozen in the garage
Hi all.
It is getting near the end of Winter here in Toronto and I decided to move some of my detailing products from the warm basement to the Garage (wife is on my case!:rofl) to my horror I saw some of my favourite car wash soap all frozen up in the garage:(
My guess is they should still be OK,do you all treat your soap the same as your sealant/liquid waxes?
Re: soap frozen in the garage
being just soap, i would think it would be ok. i have to go thru the same thing every winter. store all my products inside. then about april, everything back out to the garage. then the outside water gets turned on for good. pita, but it`s the only way. too early here yet. as soon as we get out of the 32 degree range!

The one time I had frozen car wash soap, (Meg`s Gold Class), it seemed to be fine when it thawed out.
You might want to set the container in a bucket until you are sure it didn`t break when frozen.
Some products will be damaged by freezing and I have had to pitch both polishes and waxes after they were frozen. They separated and when I shook them, they didn`t remix. They had a grainy consistency. Not hard chunks, but soft particles that didn`t mix together.
Someone told me it has to do with the emulsifiers no longer being able to do their job. :dunno:
Re: soap frozen in the garage
I have the same weather and problem here.I have a heated garage but some soap products get the cold when left on the floor.I have never had a problem even when 100% frozen with "soap" Lower temps 30`s have had separation effects on other products in the past.
I try and buy smaller size bottles in cleaners to resolve the cold problem.I also notice separation problems with older products and limited shelf life. Some react to remixing and others do not.

As far as soap goes I would let it warm up,shake it,and try it.
Cleaners are another story...:D

Probably not as bad as it looks, but until it thaws, you won`t know for sure.
Your last post has containers. How many gallons of soap do you keep on hand?

If you`re worried, send it to me for complete testing.

Your comment prompted me to count the gallons of product I have presently.
It`s kind of embarrassing considering I am only a hobby detailer and only take care of my own cars. (Plus maybe one or two a year for friends)
The total was 14 gallons, 2- 64 oz., 6- 32 oz. and too many 16 oz. to even count.
And I still have a tough time passing up a sale. :wall
