Paint Correction and Coating Plan... did I miss anything?
So... my new M5 will be here in about 3 weeks. Here is the plan.
Drive home from dealer.
Wash car
Gyeon Tar - to remove any residue from shipping film
Gyeon Iron - to remove some of the surface crap
Clay Disk - To remove the rest of the crap
Rinse Car - To remove soap from disk step
Sonax Perfect Finish Polish - To clean up the paint
Gyeon Prep/Eraser - Clean off the polish oils
Kamikaze Miyabi Coat 2x
Kamikaze ISM Coat 1x
Kamikaze Overcoat
Missing anything?
Thanks!

missing a beer or two between each step. should be drunk by the time you are adding overcoat, cheers.

slavearm- Welcome to Autopia!
I`d decontaminate with stuff that`ll do a thorough job *without* the need for subsequent mechanical decontamination (and thus avoid the chance of additional marring). Unless the car is *VERY TERRIBLY* contaminated, a chemical decontamination oughta be plenty for a new BMW.
Re: Paint Correction and Coating Plan... did I miss anything?
If you are going to use a dedicated clay line then you can skip that rinsing step and just follow up with a prep wipe to remove the clay lube.
Other than hay you are good to go.

Have a compound available for the factory sanding marks. And you will have some

What is a good compound at the moment? I haven`t had to compound yet.

Anything better than the Gyeon Iron or IronX. Those are the only two I have ever used. I also think you might be right about not needing to go to clay on a brand new car... I am hoping you are right.

I did that once... also hired performers to keep things interesting... and to help out of course. Car looked like crap the next day... and I was hungover. Is this some kinda newb hazing? LOL.

You’ll get a million answers to that question. I use Griot’s fast correction cream, works with any pad you have. As far as decontamination, I’ve found Griot’s iron and fallout remover works as good if not better than any of the other ones I’ve had
Re: Paint Correction and Coating Plan... did I miss anything?
Wash with Reset or something that leaves nothing behind after the iron remover step. You want to get that stuff completely off the paint and nooks a crannies where it can hide. I would suggest some PPF on the front of that new M5 unless you like to repair rock chips. On a car that costs that much PPF is a cheap insurance policy.

Sonax Cut Max is great and will pair up with Perfect Finish nicely.
As far as iron removers either of the ones you mentioned will work just fine.
If you are looking for an actual fine grade clay bar that won’t Matt that much then Optimum opti-clay would be a good choice. If you don’t go the clay bar route then a fine grade clay alternative will work for time savings.

I might be insane. Car arrives October 4th. I am taking an uber from the airport to the dealer around 10am. Taking the rest of the day off and starting my endeavor. Took off the 5th also, in case I get tired or die or the wife kills me on the 4th. Pics to follow! Thanks to everyone on the thread for the advice.
