Learned something yesterday (It won’t pretty)
I just did a detail on my wife’s Ridgeline
Wash (2 bucket)
Dry (Backpack blower)
Clayed Griots yellow clay
Polish with Jescar Medium using GG6 and lc white low profile pad
Lsp FK1000
I discovered Autopia In 2005 after I bought my first new vehicle (2004 f-150)
She bought her Ridgeline in March 2005 (Honda calls it an 06). First year Honda made a truck. So for the next 5 years or so from what I had learned from here I was keeping them looking good, then we moved and I stopped all the detailing. They probably got washed twice a year (I know that’s sad) and they were parked outside all the time. Well probably about 3 or 4 years ago something got on the hood of the Ridgeline (I believe it was seagull or goose poop from parking at the gym) and I didn’t worry about it. So last year with my pc7424 i tried getting it off with klasse aio. It took a little off not much. Yesterday I was determined to get it off. GG6 white pad and jescar medium. Started keeping everything clean and shiny again https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8717d608a5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a09c9a8d07.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...580028ef0a.jpgafter purchasing 16 tundra and 17 Highlander.Figured I would start with that and if that wouldn’t do it I would use the rotary. After about a minute on speed 5 I cut it off, then looked at the pad and it was red (this isn’t good) Burnt right through it. I did not think a DA would burn paint. You learn from your mistakes. To make my wife feel better I told her I just replaced one defect with another. She wasn’t upset. Her baby now is the 17 Highlander. I believe if I had’ve Stopped after 30 seconds and put more product on the pad it might not have burnt (Oh Well). Ridgeline still looks pretty good for being 13 year old paint. I will say this, in my opinion the quality of the interior parts that Honda used back then are better and will outlast the 16 tundra and 17 Highlander.
Sorry didn’t mean to write so much

It takes hands on to learn. You are learning like most people do.
Been there done that! I might do it again. I try to go easy but then there’s that 1 spot.
Don’t give up!
All my screw ups have been on my stuff.
Re: Learned something yesterday (It won’t pretty)
I won’t give up. I just couldn’t believe that something without forced rotation would burn but it did. That stuff had been in there so long I don’t believe that It would come off without messing up the paint
Re: Learned something yesterday (It won’t pretty)
The white foam Griots Boss pads are really aggressive. Learn on the old to keep the new looking good.
Re: Learned something yesterday (It won’t pretty)
It was a lake country pad. I should’ve said that. Sorry

Owner of an 04 TSX I’ve had for 11 years. My car was getting body work done last year from someone side-swiping me. I was given a new Mazda 6 as a loaner. The thing that stood out to me after driving that for 3 weeks was how cheap/light the knobs and dashboard felt. In hindsight, it was probably more of a complement to my car than a knock on the Mazda.

The newer Asian cars are known for thin paint. And you get a lot of heat out of a foam pad.
Re: Learned something yesterday (It won’t pretty)
Yeah evidently it does. Have any of you guys and gals burnt paint with a da

GG6, M101, LC Purple Foamed wool, black Mazda3 trunk lid.
Not sure the subsequent DupliColor rattle can base + clear experiment was much of an improvement.

"Knocking on wood" I haven`t. I`m actually starting to do some painting so hopefully if I ever do burn through it will be something I can repair myself.
Re: Learned something yesterday (It won’t pretty)
Me not yet, anyway !
True of the workmanship in vehicles too.
I have a `16 Nissan Rogue and was thinking of trading it. When checking out `17s for upgrades,
was surprised by the difference in one year. Thinness of materials, exterior and interior.
It felt like a toy... or a Kia ;)

I burned a small spot on my roof, trying to polish away scratches right near the sunroof. My 2004 Acura, silver paint, Porter Cable on high speed (6 I think) with 3” yellow pad. I picked up before it got really bad. I’m probably the only one that will notice the spot, but it was a good wake up call/reality check.

Sorry to hear about this :(
FWIW, despite using rotaries, forced-rotation, etc. (and very aggressively too), the only time I`ve ever damaged paint was with a PC/mild pad/mild product. But at least I was [messing] around on a panel that was already scheduled for paintwork...
