Re: Maintaining the Xterra
Done. Shop did 1-4 and tire rotation. A little more $ that expected, but my rear rotors were bad and could not be cut. So new rotors and pads. Drives great. Really noticed the braking difference.
Re: Maintaining the Xterra
Seems that they don`t do much machining of rotors these days, more often just replacing them anyhow.

Agreed. Fronts were done already. My guess it`s price. Just about the same to resurface vs. replace. My rears tho original were shot. PA winter/salt etc. Just about every shop here will not resurface. Just replace. On the short drive home from the shop, the brakes really felt great! Guess the new fluid makes a difference too.
Re: Maintaining the Xterra
Yeah, I bet the fluid made for most of the improvement. Some systems just seem to absorb moisture and/but it`s so gradual ya can`t always notice.
Re: Maintaining the Xterra
One perk I did get from the service visit was 2 months free XM. No strings. I think when you get service at certain places XM catches the VIN and gives you the trial. This is not the first time I got after service.

With the pad compounds they use, so often the pads and rotors wear at a 1:1 ratio. At least on the cars I see. Interestingly, I see it a lot where cars from the dealer just get pad slapped (I think to compete on price; also faster turnaround) then not even halfway through the pad`s life the rotors are now below discard thickness. <_<
PA: That`s cool about the free XM service without having to sign up for anything. When my wife bought her (Used) Q5 from the dealer, Sirius activated a 6 month free trial. After it was up, they were RELENTLESS about calling trying to get us to resubscribe. Wish they never got our info...
