What are these stains and what is the best way to remove them?
I’ve noticed I am getting small little brown stains on my paint. They range anywhere from a pencil point that goes into the paint to just a spread out brown stain.
Most of the time they come out with a little elbow grease in Rinseless wash.
Anybody have any ideas?
Car is a 2014 bmw 335i mineral grey no after market coatings.
Thanks,
Chris

did you take the pic after a RW swipe? looks kind of like pollen to me
elbow grease and RW can cause marring so be careful

Yes this is after the careful initial swipe to get the loose dirt off

do you notice getting them when you park anywhere particular?
Re: What are these stains and what is the best way to remove them?
Yea in my drive way. I live in Silicon Valley which means garages are not used for cars. I have been so busy that I am unable to give my car a waterless wash every three days so this stuff accumulates for a week.

Per usual, I`d start by examining it under magnification, about 15X (rather than the oft-suggested ~30X).
Re: What are these stains and what is the best way to remove them?
So you have a garage and because "everyone else here doesnt use the garage for cars" you arent gonna park in yours either? I dont understand why living in SV means you dont park in a garage.

Because we do not have basements and 3 bed 2 bath homes go for 1.5 mil the garage is used for storage and a laundry room.

From the picture I would guess what we call here artillery fungus. Shoots out of mulch, but usually only in the spring (maybe early fall?)l. Baking soda and water takes it right off
Which begs to ask, are you parking your vehicle next some landscaping mulch OR under some type of tree?
Could it be tree sap??
Re: What are these stains and what is the best way to remove them?
Could it be the material that leaches out of leaves or similar? I see this color of stains on my white van this time of year. Big maple trees dropping tons of leaves. The leaves sit on the paint and inevitably some leafy residue gets left on the paint. I just go over it with a wash mitt and extra pressure if needed and it usually comes off. I`m not positive about the leaves causing my stains, just a guess.

Lonnie,
I`ve definitely seen this artillery fungus before on van. I have mulch in multiple areas around my driveway. Never knew what it was from. Thanks for the information. "The more you know" (with shooting star emphasized!)
Thanks for the science/landscape lesson.
Bob

No attic? Id declutter before I left my cars out side and had storage in a garage. SHED maybe?
Re: What are these stains and what is the best way to remove them?
Wonder if a different LSP might work better at resisting/shedding whatever it is.
Re: What are these stains and what is the best way to remove them?
Thanks for all the replies. I have been too busy to apply lsp as regularly as I should. I will keep it better protected.
