It sure does look like water spotting to me as well. I`m going to agree with you and say it`s single stage due to the color transfer you are getting on the pads.
Any other areas of this or just the ones you posted up?
Watch the edges with a larger pad on that area as you could strike though. Tape it up before you correct anymore.
What pad are you using and what speed on the Griot`s?
And did the 105/205 make any difference at all?

To get longer section passes with M105, give the pad a spray with a quick detailer.

Pad i was using was a green LC. 6". I only have a 6" DA which makes it hard for me to get into this spot.
105/205 different a little, but not a lot.
Would Sonax paint cleaner maybe clear some of this up?

If you have done that much on single stage and those defects remain, leave it alone. There are things that cannot be fixed! Measuring with a gauge will tell you for sure.

Porsche stuck with single stage for Guard`s Red for a long, long time, so just because it`s ss that doesn`t mean it`s a repaint.
Stoppy- Please don`t take the as an insult, but are you sure you`re ready to tackle this car? Is it yours, or does it belong to somebody else (I sure wouldn`t learn how to work old oe single stage by doing somebody else`s Porsche with weird issues). I`m with Mike lambert on this, "first do no harm". There really *are* things that ya shouldn`t try to fix and IMO working on cars like that makes an ETG (and magnification) pretty much mandatory.
IF you do want to proceed, I`d do a small area *by hand* with the M105, inspecting contantly under magnification. Don`t try to rush it, let that little area (I`d probably work about one square inch) take as long as it takes for you to either get the results you want or to decide that enough`s enough. An even safer approach would be to use the M205, but I understand that most people won`t want to put in the time/effort for that.
EDIT: I don`t know from Sonax Paint Cleaner, but maybe you oughta try that test-spot with it instead of the Meguiar`s stuff.

It is my Dads car that I am working on. Appreciate the concern, really can`t answer you to be honest! It looks manageable however we`ll see.

Try the 205 on the mirrors to see if you can remove a layer of dead paint to bring back the guards red paint. I`ve seen worse fading on guards red as they will turn pink.

Also as Mike mentioned, if you have access to a paint thickness gauge, please use it to see what you are dealing with. If not, let us know the area you are located in and someone on the forum may be able to take some reading for you!

Hi All!
Sorry for the delay on this one.
I hit both the mirror and the roof line with 105 followed by 205 with orange LC pad running griot around 4-5. Few passes with some good pressure and this lifted and paint is great.

stoppy- Ah, glad things turned out well! So it *did* clear up after all with a bit more work?
Hope the owner takes precautions so you don`t have to get aggressive with it again!
