2011 Camaro SS Deer damage
Re: 2011 Camaro SS Deer damage
Are you fixing this yourself? Man I wish I had some skills to fix my own stuff.
Re: 2011 Camaro SS Deer damage
Nice work, did you blend the repaired area with rest of fender? or repainted the whole thing?

Re: 2011 Camaro SS Deer damage
great work, nice to see the steps involved in body work.
Re: 2011 Camaro SS Deer damage
Are you in the auto body repair business or just a talented guy helping a friend.
I ask because I`d love to learn to paint. I hate touch up looks and wish I could do it right. Not like heavy body work just paint. I have a compressor and willing to get basic stuff.

I just do paint work on the side as a hobby and doing this for a co-worker. Basically I`m trying to save him from paying a deductible. Most insurance companies will only pay for used or aftermarket parts. He wanted factory parts put back on so they cost a little more. Luckily the headlight wasn`t available aftermarket so insurance is paying the full price. The bumper was only $86 more for factory so he is paying the difference in parts. I`m still making money from the insurance for doing it. Just not really charging him anything more.
Painting isn`t all that bad. Having the right tools is key. Having a compressor that will keep up with the paint gun is really important. Not good to run out of air in the middle of a job. I have a 60 gallon. You can buy good primer in a aerosol can that will be fine for touchups. Not the duplicolor stuff from AA or Wal Mart though. Go to a paint supply store and get some. As for a gun the sky is the limit on what you want to spend. A Devilbiss SRI pro would probably be sufficient for doing a bumper cover or fender. You can spray the color and the clearcoat with the same gun. I think it has a 9" fan as well so it would be big enough for doing clearcoat on a panel. There are also quite a few speed clears out there that will dry really fast. For bumpers I usually use one by Medallion Rubber Seal. Depending on the activator it can be buffed anywhere from 20 min to 2 hrs depending on temp. You don`t want to go too fast on a larger area because the clear will start to flash off before you get done making passes causing dry spray. PPG has some as well but it cost 3-4 times as much. I will use nicer clear on things where people are willing to pay for it but normally I use that on bumper covers because I will normally do a blend and re-clear for $225

I used to repaint bumpers and trim/mirrors out of my back covered patio during high school , easy weekend cash once you`ve done your initial investment in a decent compressor and gun/other materials.
JSFM35X- if you got the space/garage at Home, just give it a shot , start out small with junkyard fenders and trim pieces and go from there. Worst that could happen is that you end up not liking it and end up with a compressor that can be used for many other things, and auto paint materials you can easily sell to someone else .

The deer didn`t make it. We tried to contact it`s next of kin but with it being deer season they were out of town!
